J'darin

J'darin

This month appeared to be another month of adjustments; first he appointed a new Wingsecond, and then a new Wingleader, and now he had a new Weyrlingmaster. Y'sani. A very good recommendation from his former home Weyr, and he appeared to know what he was doing. But would he get along with his former Weyrlingmaster Weyrleader?

Y'sani was due to show up in his office in the next few minutes, so J'darin straightened things up a bit, and relaxed, stilling his mind to await his visitor. The new Weyrlingmaster was on time, entering after a polite knock and giving a friendly smile and nod to J'darin as he extended a hand. "J'darin, I presume? Y'sani and Luthinath reporting for duty."

J'darin rose to his feet to greet his fellow bronzerider, smiling politely.
"Good day, Y'sani. Hasaarth tells me he's made the acquaintance of Luthinath already. Welcome to Dolphin Cove, and my thanks for coming.
Have a seat, and we can discuss any questions you have, and anything else."

"My main question is how you think your weyrlings are handling so much disruption," Y'sani replied, folding himself into the seat. "It can't be easy for them to have had so much upheaval in their training... to lose one Weyrlingmaster to Thread, and two more to duty."

"It wasn't easy, no doubt. I did take them all to Senior Weyrlings before Hasaarth won Nyith's flight, so the rest of their training has been handled by Xuxha. I think, as a whole, they've borne the strains well for younglings. It was fortunate that between Q'dan, T'moran, and myself, there was always a constant 'Second - me, and a constant 'Third - Xuxha. That gave them a thread of constancy and also their training had much of the same flavor." Y'sani nodded, feeling relieved. "So you and Xuxha have been with them the whole time... that must have made it easier on them. But still, I hope you won't take it personally if I evaluate their readiness before moving forward. I'd rather lose a sevenday or two than send them to the wings early, even knowing how badly you need them."

J'darin considered this quietly for a moment. "I have no immediate objections. Their training is up to speed and has been first rate, but you are free to make your own judgments. However, I do need them. But I need them ready too. I don't want any more keening." He said quietly.

"On that we can be agreed," Y'sani said quietly. "You went through a terrible time, J'darin. I respect everything you had to do to pull this Weyr out, and I promise to be a strong hand helping you. But I need my autonomy.
My methods aren't everyone's, but as I'm sure you've seen from my reports from previous weyrling classes, my methods work."

J'darin nodded to this, remembering reading before he agreed to Y'sani's posting here. "Their training is your responsibility, but the Wings and Wingleaders are mine, especially given our recovering situation. We need about two more Clutches Hatched, Impressed, and trained before we're back even close to full strength - we were low before the incident since its so early in the Pass." The Weyrleader frowned faintly for a moment, though not at Y'sani. "For now, let us see what you can do. I will not interfere, barring any strong disagreements." "Of course," Y'sani replied, smiling. "I think we'll do well together, J'darin. If I can ever do anything to help, just let me know. But for now, I suppose I should introduce myself to a few more people before I get down to work."

"Of course." The Weyrleader nodded. He wasn't as sure about doing well as Y'sani, but time would tell who was right. The man had the skills he needed, for certain. }: They will do well. Do not worry so. :{ A faint smile at Hasaarth's vote of confidence and he said with a smile to Y'sani, "Hasaarth agrees that you'll do very well here. Good luck, Y'sani.
Please come to me with any problems. I will see you soon." He rose to his feet to dismiss his fellow bronzerider.
