Sitting at her usual table in the Dining Cavern, she found herself to be
rather quiet for some reason. When she was finished, she put her tray up and began heading out for an afternoon at the beach. As she made her way to
the exit, she tripped over a small mug someone had left in the floor and found herself going headlong. "Shells!"_ she exclaimed, hopefully to warn anyone to move out of the way.

"Whoa!" Meledei almost collided with the girl. In truth, her hands
thrust out in a desperate attempt to catch her before she went
sprawling upon the floor. "Are you all right?"

Asley had almost made it to the hard stone floor before she felt hands.
Catching her breath and then struggling to straighten herself, she heaved for a bit before the moment passed. "Yeah..I'm...thanks," she blushed when she realized who it was.

"No problem." Meledei made sure the girl was steady before she let go.
Her eyes scanned the area, looking for whomever or whatever had caused
the collision. "Here's the culprit." She swept the mug from the floor
and let it dangle from her finger as she held it up. "People really
ought to be more careful and considerate."

"Well I should have been paying more attention too, weyrwoman." Perking
up in the goldrider's presence, Asley couldn't help but think of how fit
dragonriders were. She could bet Meledei was awful trim. "How is your
Elleth today?"

"She's fine." Meledei gave the mug a little twirl and moved inside to
place the mug with other dirty dishes. She moved back and smiled.
"Napping at the moment, though it won't be for too much longer since
we've got drills." The goldrider's eyes found the knots on the other
woman. "You seem to know me, but I've not had the pleasure."

"Ahh...well...no. I'm Asley, senior apprentice printer-hopefully
journeyman before too much longer." She tried to imagine the gold
sleeping, but it wasn't an image that came readily into her head. She
knew dragons slept and had even seen some of them doing so, but it
wasn't the same as a _gold_.

"Nice to meet you Asley. I'd introduce myself, but I think that would
be redundant." Meledei gave the apprentice a half grin. "So what made
you decide to come eat with us rather than at the Hall?"

"More food. And better scenery," she answered honestly.

"Better scenery?" Meledei's eyebrow arched upward and she canted her
head to the side. "In what way?"

"I like to watch people. At Dolphin Cove, people don't wear much." A
smile came across her lips as she spotted one such example coming down
the tunnel. A young female rider, she was toned. Of course Meledei
wasn't unattractive either.

Meledei laughed. She wasn't the sort to wear less just to show off and
it just wasn't always practical. "I guess it doesn't hurt to have a
change of pace."

"MMm...I love the Weyr." She frowned, once again thinking about the
coming months when she might be forced to move. It was daunting since
Emerald Falls meant death to her until she got her journeyman knots and
could leave again.

"What's wrong?" Meledei canted her head to the side as she regarded the
change in expression.

"Ummm...well as you know the Hall's moving back to Emerald Falls. And
in a bit, I'll probably have to move with it." She didn't have much of a choice unless she got those knots. If Master Thanja would only... Asley gave a sigh full of struggle.

"Well, yes. It's partially moved already, right?" It had been a long
time coming - in fact, it had taken longer than everyone had planned.
Meledei wondered if they would still allow women to be harpers.

"Right. Most of the hall is already there. Our presses, though...they're
so large that they have to be dismantled and then taken which means we can't work. So they're holding off until they have no choice." Wondering how she was going to feel about being in a Hold again, she tried to remember how it was before.

"Well, I hope things go well for you." Meledei really, truly hoped that
they didn't have a problem with female harpers. She knew the change had
caused quite a stir as it was. "In the meantime, you should just enjoy
the Weyr."

"I intend to, goldrider." Asley gave her a smile and a cheshire grin
that certainly seemed to back up her words. She didn't look like she was on the prowl exactly, but she was open.

"Good. Well, I've got to get going, but it was nice meeting you. Feel
free to visit any time." Meledei was meeting a friend that she didn't
want to keep waiting.

"You too. I sure will!" As Meledei left, Asley couldn't help but watch
after her before she went her own way. Thank Faranth for wherhide.
