Crushed by a Bluerider

Characters: D'ret, N'ki
Description: N'ki takes exception to how Daret has treated G'wen
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 8, day 1 of Turn 6

N'ki purposely strided out of the Dinning Hall, his hand in a grip
around young Daret's arm becoming more and more vicelike as they
blended into the dark night. He breathed out of his mouth as he
walked, trying to calm himself before he had it out with this little
boy next to him. They went--not in the direction of the Flight
Rooms--but towards the candidates barracks.

One thing he was fed up with was the treatment of greenriders. Daret
was, to him, yet another snotty nosed Holder boy who needed a quick
lesson in respect for the group of riders who sacrificed the most for
Pern and who received the brunt of holder's hatred. Once he was sure
they were alone he stopped and glared at the boy with cold eyes.

"So you care to explain to me how you're justified in abusing a boy
who--because he was injured protecting sorry bastards like your Holder
realitives--is weak from a relapse? A boy, I may remind you, who is a
dragonrider." He crossed his arms and waited for Daret's answer.

"Oww ... this isn't ..." The increasing grip and the direction they
were heading had Daret nearly panicking. What did N'ki hope to
accomplish bedding him out in the open, so close to the barracks? Of
course, when they stopped and the bluerider spoke, Daret frowned and
pursed his lips ... a look that he knew would not be at all
attractive.

"I don't have any Holder relatives," he started to answer then gasped,
eyes wide with the realization that N'ki was still completely focused
on G'wen. "Are you truly that stupid that you don't realize the G'wen
... does ... NOT ... want ... you?! Shells and shards, I've been
busting my butt to get close to you and all you think of is poor
little G'wen? Well, too bad for you you'll never know what he's like
in bed."

He was beyond angry and truly beyond reason, all that work to keep his
anger under control vanishing in an instant. Deep down, Daret knew he
shouldn't be speaking to him like this but he just couldn't stop.

"I do NOT care what he's like in bed! This isn't about that. YOU DO
NOT TREAT A DRAGONRIDER LIKE THAT!! Do you understand me?" He didn't
care if Daret was losing his own temper. He leaned down to stare hard
at the boy. "Take your snotty little attitude some place else if you
can't get that through you're foolish little head, this job is
dangerous enough without having the likes of you disrespecting a
greenrider."

Daret blinked as N'ki hovered over him in an anger he'd never seen
N'ki in. What pretty eyes ... he could feel his heart racing but not
in fear. He was *so* aroused. "I'm sorry. I ... I wasn't thinking.
G'wen and I ... we do that sort of thing all the time," he said
breathlessly as the rage quickly turned to desire. What the shards was
wrong with him?!

N'ki blinked. Was what he was saying true? G'wen didn't look like he
knew that had been about to happen and he told Daret so.

"Well ... not usually that physical but ... well, I just wanted to be
close to you," Daret said as he lifted his hand and ran his finger
along the bluerider's collarbone from shoulder to neck then down his
chest. "He knows it was an accident."

N'ki could feel his anger rising again. Slapping the boy's hand away,
he stared down at him. "Did he then? Is that why he looked pissed
off?"

Letting his hand fall to his side, Daret looked at N'ki with
confusion. "He wasn't pissed off about that. He was pissed off that
you kept ignoring me when he wants nothing to do with you," he
answered then quickly took a step back with wide eyes. He hadn't
meant to be that blunt but this switch in emotions was driving him
crazy. "Just tell me straight ... do you want me?"

"Do I..? What? Daret...no. I'd hate to meet someone coming when I'm
going, if you get my meaning. I like my mates a bit more...how do you
put it?...innocent than that." He knew he was being blunt but the boy
had to learn that just because he appealed to some didn't mean
everyone would fall to his feet.

Daret was crushed and it took all his strength to keep from breaking
down right then and there. he opened his mouth a few times to talk
but was unable to past the lump in his throat. Knowing there would
never be a chance with N'ki wasn't something he could fully face yet.
"Can ... can I go ... sir?" he stammered and quickly blinked to keep
the tears at bay.

N'ki nodded, already thinking of the whiskey back in his weyr. He
wondered if there was enough of it to erase this night out of his
memory.

The bluerider's head was barely down before Daret took off. It was too
early to go to bed and he couldn't face any of the candidates anyway.
Finding a crevice in the hallway to hide, he sat, wrapped his arms
around his knees and let the tears fall.
