Working Together

Writers: Jelena, Paula
Date Posted: 11th December 2012

Characters: Parme, Telemon
Description: Telemon and Parme meet to discuss how to best work together.
Location: Sunstone Seahold
Date: month 11, day 3 of Turn 6

Parme's name came up soon after Telemon got to talking with his new staff.
She was mentioned as someone who knew herbs and midwifery. There was almost
always one or two persons in a hold. Self educated herbwives or women
experienced delivering babies. She was certainly a someone he wanted to
meet. They would probably working together after all. However, it took time
to settle in, and months passed before he got the meeting arranged with her.

Telemon wanted to work with her, not against her. He didn't want be seen
too officious either, so he sent her message to meet him the hold's dining
hall. It was a public place and neutral ground.

Parme wasn't really sure how she felt about being summoned, but she figured
it was nice of the new Healer to invite her to a meeting at least. She had
to admit she was curious about the man as well. She hoped he would be one
of those to take her seriously. Healers who thought her herbal remedies
were nonsense always seemed to be out to give her a headache. Working
together was better for all parties. So, she made her way the dining hall,
looking around for a new face as she reached it.

Spotting her, (he had a hold brat to point her out earlier), Telemon stood
up. "Parme?"

Parme turned in the direction of the voice and fixed her eyes on the man.
"That would be me. Telemon, I presume?" she stepped forward and held out
her hand to the man.

"Yes, that's right. I'm pleased to meet you. I've heard a lot of things
about you," Telemon replied and took her hand to shake it.

Giving Telemon a firm shake, Parme met his eyes and held his gaze for a
moment. The first impression was alright, she decided. "Have you? Nothing
bad, I hope?"

"Just praise. I heard you are exellent midwife and know your herb-lore,"
Telemon smiled and gestured ther to take a seat, holding a chair for her.
Ena flew in and circled her, chirping curiously.

"I'm pleased to hear that," Parme nodded. "I do my best to live up to my
reputation. But what has brought you to Sunstone? Did you have a pleasant
journey?" Parme paused for a moment, quietly observing Ena but not
commenting on her presence.

"As smooth as any dragonflight I ever had," Telemon replied. After they had
settled down to their seats, Ena went and putted her hand with her head,
crooning.

"Go ahead and pet her, otherwise she won't leave you alone," Telemon smiled
at his little flit.

"Oh," Parme said, sounding a little unsure, but slowly reaching out to pet
the firelizard's wing. "I'm sorry, I'm not used to firelizards. We don't
have much of those around."

"She's very usuful, both as messanger and as a distraction to child
patients. Unfortunately she can only take messages to those people she's
met before," Telemon replied. "I got fortunate, there was clutch and I was
able to purchase one of the eggs."

"Hmm, I can imagine. Don't they hum when a child is being born, too, like
with dragons hatching?" Parme wasn't sure if that was true, but she had
heard about it some time ago. It could be useful, some sort of birthing
alarm.

"You know, I haven't paid any attention if she does. She's not usually
around for human births," Telemon said thoughtfully. He never thought about
it.

"Hmm, we'll have to see if there's any truth to it, then," Parma said with
a small shrug. "Some people spin the wildest of tales when it comes to
draconics."

"Yes," Telemon smiled. "I do know she reacts to my feline's birth and
mothers the kittens," he continued his train of thought.

"She mothers them?" Parme said with an amused grin. "That is surely an
interesting sight to behold! Don't the kittens get scared?" She remembered
what Barley was like when there were dragons around for the Gather.

"Not at all. They are used to her from the birth," Telemon replied.

"And of course their mother trusts her as well," Parme reasoned with a nod.
"Certainly interesting. But I doubt you wanted to speak to me about
firelizards?"

"No, that wasn't the plan. I wanted to talk about the best way we can work
together," Telemon replied and found himself smiling. She was distracting
him. It had been long time since anyone had done that to him.

Parme nodded, wondering if this was the moment for him to come out with
prejudices against herbalists. Then again, he had only treated her with
respect so far. "What would you suggest?"

"I understand you've worked as midwife for a long time now, is that right?"
Telemon asked.

Parme nodded. "And I've been working with herbal remedies just as long."

"You don't mind if I leave the routine pregnancies or births for you to
handle? I can therefore consentrate those problematic cases. And if you
could sometime show me the where the local herbs grow? I like to gather
them," Telemon asked.

Parme nodded, pleased enough with that offer. "That seems like a reasonable
proposal. And I can certainly show you around. I have a lot of contact with
people in the area who move around and gather for me, though, so if you
ever need anything specific you can't find, don't be afraid to ask."

Telemon nodded. "I appreciate it," he said.

"Alright," Parme nodded. "A lot of the holders usually come to me with
minor ailments or injuries. I hope you are not opposed to that? It's
usually easier for them to drop in with me for the small things. I know
full well when to send them on to the healers."

"Not a problem, I can't see any reason why we couldn't work together. We
both aim at the same goal, making people healthy," Telemon replied.
"Actually, I'm willing to share my knowledge with you, if you're
interested," he lowered his voice. "Discreetly of course, I wouldn't want
anybody think that I would be teaching you," he gave an impish grin.

"I am very interested," Parme smiled "Who would turn down a chance at
gaining some extra knowledge." She surely wouldn't. Even if it meant
stepping on a few toes, perhaps. She had earned plenty of respect over the
turns to get away with a little something here and there.

"It's a deal than. Can I propose a toast for succesful cooperation?"
Telemon said.

"Certainly," Parme said with a smile and even though she had only a cup of
tea, she raised it to him. She wasn't one for alcohol.
