"Toriat! Wait a moment!" The weyrling called after the tanner as he disappeared around the corner of the corridor.
Toriat paused as he heard his name being called. He spun around and smiled at the caller. "Teseada, its" he paused then, remembering the last time they spoke, "been a bit. How have you and Onnyth been?"
"Doing well, both of us. And Aryn is too," she said, juggling some cleaning supplies in her hands.
"Oh, let me help you with that," Toriat said rushing forward. "I am glad to hear that...and, thanks," he said softly. He and his sister were not speaking still. "I see the hatchlings, they're, they're so, inspiring. Its still so new here," he smiled, ducking his head.
"How has training been?"
"It's fun, hard work, but fun," she smiled, thinking of Onnyth. "I don't know what I'd do without her now, I really don't."
"Well, you'd probably be at the Technicians hall now, fixing something some snot nosed kid broke. Or classes perhaps," Toriat replied with a smile.
"And where would poor Onnyth be?"
"Not to say you two aren't a good match," he said, prefacing his thought. "Because, I really think you are, but for the sake of Onnyth and Pern I hope she would have found someone else suitable."
"Your sister maybe?"
"Oh, I doubt it," he said with a laugh. "She's always had a hard time being diplomatic. And I doubt she wants any responsibility, besides that to Viyanth."
"You'd be surprised, you should talk to her."
"Well, someday," he said. The later the better though. It still stung him so much. And she obviously didn't want Toriat bothering.
"How have you been?" she asked.
"Its been ok, a little quiet I guess." He laughed, "Maybe thats a good thing."
"Quiet is good," she admitted.
"I'm sorry," he laughed, "I've just been practicing my craft, and I guess that isn't that interesting."
"I'm sure it is though," she said thoughtfully as they reached the turn off for the barracks. "I really should get these back, we need them to finish up before inspection."
"Are you sure you got it," Toriat said as he handed off the cleaning supplies to her. "I wouldn't want to keep you."
"You aren't, but the others might kill me if we fail inspection!"
"We wouldn't want that," he said, smiling a bit foolishly. "Our last words can't be about cleaning supplies."
"Well," she thought for a moment. "What about dinner tomorrow? I could meet you?"
"Sounds great. I'll meet you back here? Minus the cleaning supplies?" he said with a grin.
"I'll look forwards to it."
