Cardella

Cardella

"You did well today," the Weyrwoman said, laying a hand on the young
greenrider's shoulder.

"Thank you so much," Cardella beamed under the praise of her Weyrwoman
and Wingleader.

}:We've been working hard,:{ Awenth told her rider, beaming under the
praise as well.

"You've settled in well, Cardella. Are you feeling comfortable in your
position?" Hygalia took particular interest in young riders put into
her Wing. She knew it could all be overwhelming at first, and she
wanted to smooth the transition from weyrling to fighting rider as much
as possible.

"I am, Ma'am," Cardella replied. It had been an honor to be picked
to fly in the Queen's Wing. Even still Cardella was amazed that she
had been given such an honor. For an honor it truly was. "Awenth and I
are pleased to do both you and Genith proud each day in the wing."

"When I chose you, I knew I could expect no less of you, Cardella," the
Weyrwoman smiled. She took off her helmet and shook out her hair.
"Well, my bathing pool calls. Keep up the good work."

Cardella nodded to the Weyrwoman. Her thoughts drifting back to the
day Hygalia told her the news.

~~Begin Flashback~~

Cardella was shocked. She'd learned that _she'd_ been chosen by the
Weyrwoman to join her wing. She _still_ couldn't believe it. What had
she done to prove herself worthy of joining the Queen's Wing? It was a
question she'd been asking herself since she'd learned the news.

"Greenrider?" the Weyrwoman asked, carefully approaching the young
woman. "Is now a bad time?"

Pulled from her reverie, Cardella nearly jumped out of her skin. She
quickly stood at attention when she realized _who_ was talking to her.

"Weyrwoman," she nodded her head as a sign of respect. "It's not a bad
time at all, ma'am." Cardella found herself nervous. She hadn't
interacted with Hygalia much and found that she wanted to make sure
she showed the proper amount of respect. She was dying to ask her
about her wing assignment, but wasn't certain she should.

Hygalia gave her a smile. "You just looked lost in thought."

"I was..." Cardella paused, considering her words, "I was just
thinking of what an honor it is to have been chosen for your wing."

"Well, I confess, you were originally chosen for the Weyrleader's Wing,
but I made a special request that you be put in mine. I hope you don't
mind." It was just as much of an honor to serve under G'nir, and
perhaps a bit more exciting in many ways. The Queen's wing had the
lighter load in the Fall, but they also were the last line of defense,
both for the ground, and the Golds they were to protect with their lives
if necessary.

"I don't mind at all, ma'am," Cardella replied. "I know I will learn
alot from you, and I promise Awenth and I will not let you down!"
Cardella was amazed to think that she had been deemed worthy enough to
fly in both the Weyrleader's Wing _and_ the Weyrwoman's Wing. She was
still reeling from the realization that _she_ had proven herself in
ways even she couldn't have imagined.

"Oh now," Hygalia said with a wave. "I expect great things, but in due
time. Give yourself leave to make mistakes, Cardella. That's how we
learn." Hopefully, the majority of them will be in drills and not in
Thread, though. "You have the potential for the kind of rider I need,
and if you give yourself time to develop your skills, you will fit
nicely."

She felt a slight blush creep up her cheeks at the praise from
Hygalia. "Thank you. I will work hard and learn all I can." She didn't
know what else to say. She was nervous. Excited. Proud all the in same
moment. She couldn't wait to tell K'ale and G'wen the news.

~~End Flashback~~

Cardella stood there, watching as Hygalia walked away, a huge smile
lighting up her face. She _had_ proven herself worthy of this
placement and she knew she would continue to do so.
