Physical Description of Persona:
One would not describe Hygalia as strikingly beautiful. Her nose is a little too wide and round to deserve such lofty praise. And yet, her face is appealing. She has fine hazel eyes that sparkle with intelligence and energy. Even wearing her most neutral expression, the corners of her lips curl, giving the impression of an eternal smile. They are flanked by small dimples on either side when she smiles. Behind those lips, her teeth are white and straight, though her canine's are slightly longer than most. And yet, when she smiles, they do not look in the least menacing, but on the contrary, they give her grin a special charm. Her reddish brown hair falls in waves around her face, softening her features considerably. She is long in arms and body, but is only average height.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Hygalia hides much of what she feels from the world, not because she is mistrusting. Far from it! She believes whole heartedly in the good of people and their intentions. And yet, she is always on guard. There was no real trauma which brought this vigilance about. As much as she believes people are basically good, she also accepts that they do not always meet her expectations. In this way, she considers herself a realist. She hopes for the best in all situations, but deep down is prepared for the worst. It is a quality she learned from her aunt Colara, who had a profound impact on her upbringing.

Though she was raised to be a lady, she always had a bit of a tomboyish streak to her. She loves action, sport, the outdoors. But she knows there is a time to be carefree, and a time to work. There is a time to be a free-spirit, and a time to be the lady. She is not being fake as she switches back and forth. They are both part of who she is. She has strong opinions, but she knows when to voice them strongly, and when to use more subtle methods of persuasion. As her Aunt Colara often said, "Whether you gently shut the door or slam it, the result is always the same. Why not save the hinges when you can?"

History of Persona:
Her parents were born to proud families of the Blood, but they were a rather minor line, little more than footnotes in family trees. However, her aunt Colara had managed to marry very well, and when the Lord Holder at Copper Beach Hold died without an heir, she became a true Lady. Even before Hygalia finished Harper classes, they decided she and they could only benefit from fostering her at her aunt's Hold, where she could learn from her esteemed relative and hopefully marry into a greater family than their own.

Though she was a little headstrong at first, through love and patience, Colara managed to not only win her respect, but her heartfelt adoration as well. Their relationship grew strong and deep, and they could not have loved each other more had they truly been mother and daughter. Hygalia learned how to act the part of a proper Lady from her aunt, but also learned how to relax and enjoy herself when eyes were not on her.

She was torn when a Searchrider came to their Hold in search of candidates. A gold egg had been laid at the Weyr, and they were looking for female candidates. Hygalia didn't to leave her aunt, but she had not lost that spirit of adventure and curiosity she had as a child. Her aunt encouraged her to take a chance. "My world is limited to this Hold, and always will be," her aunt had said. "But on a gold dragon, just imagine how wide your world could become!" It was enough to convince her to go, and with her aunt looking down on her from the Stands, Hygalia Impressed that gold egg at the age of seventeen turns.

Hygalia has never regretted that decision to leave Copper Beach. As her aunt had said, the world had suddenly opened up to her. She took the lessons Colara had taught her and threw herself into the business of being a goldrider, work that was surprisingly similar to that she had been trained to do. While she regrets that she was not by her aunt's side when she died giving birth, she feels always connected to her.

When Kapera, Weyrwoman of Dragonsfall Weyr, had to step down, Hygalia and Genith were ready for the challenge of taking her place. Now they had only to wait for Genith to rise and she will truly become a Weyrwoman of Pern.

Description of Dragon:
Genith is a medium sized, bright yellowish gold. Her personality is reserved and dignified, though she is friendly and likes conversing with her fellow dragons. She takes an interest in all her rider does, and also takes directions from her without question. Though usually quite calm, when she has Eggs on the Sands she has been known to be even more protective than most. Candidates must be careful when visiting her Eggs, and unannounced visitors to the Stands will quickly stir up her maternal anger. Hygalia has her work cut out for her keeping her lifemate's temper in check during that time.

As a kitten, with his hair sticking out in all directions one very well could have mistaken him as a giant grey dust ball one might find under their bed after turns of not sweeping it out if it weren't for the two large klah colored eyes staring out at you. He had been the very first to jump out of the basket and bound right up to her. Impressed by his friendliness and curiosity, Hygalia took him home and quickly feel in love with him. His hair has become a bit tamer now that he is full sized. The name was more for irony than for any reflection of his personality since he was the sweetest little thing. He still has a friendly temperament, though he makes it very clear that both Hygalia and her gold are there to serve his needs foremost and he will voice his displeasure when he feels he is lacking their due attention.
