What Do You Think?

Writers: AL, Chelle
Date Posted: 6th February 2013

Characters: Qorri, Meledei
Description: Qorris asks Meledei's opinon in regards to some requested changes for the hatching.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 12, day 4 of Turn 6

"I need you to tell me where goldriders get these ideas. I just don't
understand it." Inside her head, Qorri was trying to sort out what
Cyradis had brought
up. Why would the Weyrwoman want that? And for her first hatching when she
should play it safe? The headwoman was confused.

"What ideas?" Meledei couldn't think of any suggestions she'd made to
the Headwoman so there were few other choices as to who she was talking
about. "And how bad are they?"

"Well maybe not bad but not....easy." She shook her head, knowing
Meledei would probably find out anyway so it was probably fine to ask
her opinion on
the matter. Besides, it was Meledei after all. "Like having the usual
seating
arrangements for hatchings changed."

"Changed? How so? Did she say why?" Meledei didn't understand how
that would be difficult, but maybe it upset some sort of system Qorri had.

"She wants K'deren to sit with her and Talryne to sit with N'vanik. I
knew her
and that wingsecond were...well you know but you don't bring personal
business
into official Weyr business." That wasn't the real issue, though. "She
wants Talryne
to sit with N'vanik. I told her that might not...so she's going to ask
him about it."
Talryne wasn't okay with hatchings after what had happened and Qorri didn't
want to upset her.

"Ah." That was rather odd. Meledei had sat with R'enh at hers, but if
that's what
Cyradis wanted. "Well, I guess it couldn't hurt to ask." The only
difficulty would
be how Talryne would take it, and really, that was up to Talryne to
decide, not
Qorri. "Do you think it will be an issue, changing the seating?"

"I don't know. I told her to talk with N'vanik about it. Cause if it's
going to upset
Talryne, I'd rather not." The headwoman's protective nature was coming
out and
it wasn't hard to figure out. "Speaking of which, she has been doing a
bit better."

"Yeah, I don't blame you. I wouldn't want her to get upset, though I'm
glad she's
doing better." Meledei couldn't imagine what it was like to live
without a lifemate.
She didn't _want_ to imagine it. It was an absolutely horrifying
thought and it sent
a shiver down her spine. "Don't worry, you can have me sit with whomever."

"MMm....you get your usual seat with the Wingleaders and Seconds." Of
course Qorri
was always too busy in the kitchens to even think about sitting in the
Stands when a Hatching happened. As it was, though, she heard the hum
anyway. "I just...do you think it's too much change for everyone?" Her
question was a small one but she was really thinking it
all out.

"Well you know people are going to talk about it." When you had a
crowd, people talked.
That was just their nature and Meledei had learned long ago there was
nothing you could
do to stop it. "But they'll be talking about them, not you. People
will adjust and deal." And
really, such a change wasn't that big a deal in the grand scheme of
things. "I doubt it causes
them any sleepless nights."

"No, she's just doing what she wants. It's not often that the
Weyrleaders are actually ever in
love anyway like Sean and Sorka were so no one really expects that. It's
just we never put it
on display before. Then again with Traelyn and then Janani...there was a
lot going on there
that we didn't need the public to know." She wondered if Cyradis would
turn out okay. She hoped so. The Weyr needed to know that it would have
stability.

"Yeah, well...those two..." Meledei didn't finish her sentence. There
was still anger and hurt
and she knew she needed to get past it, but sometimes it was just so
_hard_. "Anyway, I think things will be fine even with the changes, so I
wouldn't worry."

"Fine I'm not worrying about it. It is what it is. Now I just need to
get everything cleaned, decorated, and cooked." That was enough for her
and it was going to take some time before she had it all ready.
