Characters: Asley, Meledei
Description: Meledei tells Asley goodbye.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 12, day 3 of Turn 6

She'd finally decided and was only just waiting for her orders so she
could start travelling. Asley didn't think she'd be going on her own as
an apprentice but there was enough traffic between the Weyr and the new
Hall that she didn't think she'd have to wait overly long for a ride.
Sitting at the table in the Dining Cavern, she contemplated how fast
things had changed so much.

"Hey Asley." Meledei started to slide into a seat then stopped herself
and motioned to it - a silent request for permission. "Anyone claimed
this spot?" It had been a while since she had seen the printer and
she'd heard that the move was already in gear.

**SHELLS it's Meledei!**
Nodding with a smile, Asley surreptitiously ran a hand through her hair,
hoping she didn't look too unkempt.
Just like that, she remembered she was going to leave soon which meant
she couldn't see Meledei. **Awww
shards..**

Meledei slid into the seat and unfolded her napkin. "How are you
doing?" Her fork was taken up and immediately speared a fingerroot. "I
hear the move's under way."

"Yeah..." She gave a wan smile. "I'll be leaving the Weyr soon. I thought
about it and decided it would be better to put my crafting first. If I keep
my head down and try not to think about it, maybe I can get through the
few turns I need."

Meledei nodded slowly. She could certainly understand that. "No way you
can craft at the Weyr?" How would the hold take having female crafters?
Thus far, she'd heard varying stories about how well they were received at
other places.

"I can craft here, but I wouldn't be able to work with Master to
advance..."
Her disappointment showed at that. Asley curled some noodles around her
fork.

"You couldn't advance in the Weyr?" Meledei knew plenty of crafters who
advanced at the Weyr. Of course, she didn't know if the Harper craft
did things
differently or not.

"There aren't that many printers. Probably cause it's still seen as one
of those
northern crafts and whatever but...And then when the Hall was destroyed, it
probably didn't help things." Asley shook her head. Of course she had
had to
choose a craft where things would be more difficult.

"I guess that's true." Meledei's mouth quirked and her fork played at
her food.
"Well...you write me. Let me know how you're doing. And if you need to
get away
or something, you let me know that too and I'll come get you, all right?"

A sparkle of appreciation came into Asley's eyes. Was she really
becoming friends
with a goldrider? Really? She had heard that Meledei was a sweet, caring
soul but
this was the first real evidence she had of it. Twirling her fork, she
dipped it back
into her food. "Thank you."

"Nah, no need for thanks." Meledei gave Asley a half grin. "Come on,
let's eat and
hang out a while. Maybe we can go for a swim or something."

Something in her insides twittered at mention of that, but she kept it
to herself. She
had forgotten that women didn't walk around the Hold in bikinis. **Well
just sharding
great!**
