Eating Alone

Writers: Chelle, Jelena
Date Posted: 22nd March 2013

Characters: Naevyn, Qorri
Description: The Headwoman spots a lonely young greenrider.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 12, day 10 of Turn 6

Naevyn was seated in the dining cavern by herself, quietly minding her
own business as she munched on her late meal. She liked to avoid the
crowds and went in for dinner as late as possible. It wasn't because
she didn't like company that she ate alone, but she still felt a
little cornered when forced to partake in a group conversation.

"Evening greenrider, your food taste okay?" Qorri saw the young girl
by herself and wondered about it. She didn't know this one well, so
she didn't know Naevyn was all by herself.

Naevyn looked up, startled as she hadn't seen or heard the headwoman
approaching. "Oh, um, it's really good, Ma'am," she replied quickly,
figuring that was the right answer, looking down at her meal shyly.

"Lovely. And how's life in the Wings then?" She always wondered how
much harder it was for the girls. Especially the ones on a fighting
dragon. This one looked quite feminine.

"Oh, it's alright, Ma'am, I feel like I'm finally doing some good."
That was the one thing she loved about being a graduated rider. While
she would never be a proud creature, at least she could admit she was
useful for once.

"Mmm lovely. I know the Weyrleader needed some more folks to fill
things out so he's quite pleased with the new additions." Qorri
remembered their last conversation. N'vanik might have less to worry
about for a good while. That was a good thing.

"Yes, I'm sure he is," Naevyn nodded, before directing her eyes at her
meal again. She wasn't sure what the Headwoman wanted exactly and it
made her a little nervous. "How are you doing, Ma'am?"

"Oh me? Good now that the hatching is over and done with. I can get
back to my normal schedule." Indeed, Qorri relished this little lull
period when all she had to do was feed her Weyrfolk.

"I can imagine, it must be so stressful, all those guests to take care
of!" Naevyn replied empathically. That was one thing she was good at,
listening to and caring about others.

"It's a good time too, for celebrating." Of course everyone knew that.
Hatchings were the bright part of a Pass. "Now, are you available for
errand flying Naevyn? I think there are some things I need picked
up....if you have the time..." She was trying to keep track of who was
available and who wasn't but it was hard sometimes.

"Oh, of course, Ma'am, I'd be glad to help!" Naevyn assured the
Headwoman hastily. She didn't mind errands one bit, they kept her busy
and feeling useful.

"Oh lovely. I'll let you finish your meal but come see me when you
can. It would be quite helpful and I appreciate it." And one more
thing to cross off her list. **Beautiful**

"I will, Ma'am," Naevyn nodded politely. "It was nice talking to you."
