Whistling, the somewhat burly new Weyrlingmaster Second was enjoying a
nice walk about the Weyr. He didn't have anywhere in particular in
mind, but as he neared the caverns that led down to the kitchens, he
smelled something too good to pass up. D'naz turned and with a grin,
hoped the smell was that of his favorite bubblie pie.
"Who's that I hear?" came rumble from behind a nearby shelf. It wasn't hard
to know whose rumble it was, though the voice was only teasing. "Oh girls,
it's the new Weyrlingmaster Second!" And then Qorri appeared with a few cookies
in her hand, coming towards D'naz, obviously hearing about his promotion.
"Hey, hey, hey," he grinned, spying the cookies. "A woman after my own
heart," he winked at Qorri playfully. She knew his preference for men,
but still they flirted occasionally. "I see you've heard the news then?" He
grinned. "I hadn't expected N'vanik to offer me the Second when all I'd ask
for was a chance to be the Third. Shall we celebrate?" he asked, moving
forward and taking her in his arms as he twirled her about. "A dance? Or
perhaps just a treat?" D'naz chuckled again as he plucked the cookies from
her hand.
"Faranth's sakes I'm not that good of a dancer but if you don't mind me stepping
on your toes.." She was smiling however and genuinely happy for him. It would
be good for the Weyr and they needed the young ones to be prepared.
D'naz stepped back, munching the cookies he'd taken. "Ah, Qorri, you
know I'd always dance with you, toe stepping or not!"
"Rogue. Now you have to work more with me." She winked and couldn't contain her
laughter.
D'naz feigned shock at her words. "I don't know how I'll manage to
spend more time with you and all the sweet, delicious treats you and
the kitchen put out." He winked at her at those words, enjoying the
hint of another meaning there. Then patting his belly he quipped,
"I'll be too fat for Keluth to carry me if I spend too much time round here."
"You'll just have to run more. Then again I hear the weyrlings need to start
running if they're going to be able to throw and lift like they should so you
should get right on that." Chuckling, Qorri made the motions as if she
was shooing him out.
"Har! I'm fit as a fiddle and I will make sure they are as well. Don't
you worry." D'naz winked at her and turned to do just as she
indicated. He paused and turned back, "If you have _any_ problems with
them you know you can come to me," he said this last part in all
seriousness. "I will make sure they know their place while still
enjoying their time with their young dragons."
"You just worry about keeping them alive and ready for the wings. That'll
be enough to start." Of course Qorri could usually handle her own problems
but if need be, she'd get in touch with the weyrling staff easily enough.
His look was more serious this time as he replied, "I'll do everything
in my power to do that, Qorri. Everything in my power." D'naz knew it
was an almost insurmountable task, but it was a task he intended to
take on with a fervor and a passion that would continue to drive him
even if times seemed bleak.
