Description: Elleth rises and males give chase!
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 1, day 12 of Turn 7
Elleth had been glowing brighter and brighter. To be honest, Meledei
had been moody for over a month as it was and it was just getting
worse. There were times she broke down in tears for no reason. At
least, whatever it was wouldn't have made her cry normally. It seemed
worse that time than Elleth's first- or maybe Meledei had just
forgotten what it was like when her dragon was proddy. She seemed to
be in a worse mood than Elleth, who simply basked in the attention her
condition drew from the males. The little gold did become more
insistent, but she was rarely snappish or rude. No, that generally
happened to Meledei. She just wasn't herself. The tension with R'enh
certainly didn't help matters either.
It was a brilliant day when the gold chose to rise. She waited til
the sun was high in the sky and, of course, decided to
interrupt everyone's day by choosing that time to pounce on a herdbeast
and start blooding it. Meledei kept control, but the gold had no
desire to gorge herself on meat. She simply wanted that lifeforce to
pump through her, energizing her and ensuring that the chase would be
a long and exciting one.
Taldeth, who had been resting near the waters, reacted immediately.
He'd always been attuned more to Elleth than some of the others
because of his rider's feelings for her. He rose instantly and took to
the air.
T'nom, who'd been lounging nearby, jumped up, startled. **Where are
you going?** He inquired confused.
}:To chase! Tis Elleth!:{ He told his rider before zipping over to the
bowl's ledge to perch and wait for the moment when the gold would take
flight.
}:You are radiant as ever my golden beauty,:{ the young bronze
trumpeted to her, puffing up his chest as he did so. Taldeth knew he
was younger than most other bronzes, but that only meant he was fast
and could outlast some of the older ones....or so he hoped.
Mnoranth's hungry eyes raked his competition with disdain when he
dropped into the pen and blooded his own kill. He'd caught the
beautifully glowing gold before and fully intended to do so again. The
burn of his intent flooded R'enh and all the difficulties with Meledei
fell away. He hurried to join the others near where the young rider
valiantly controlled her lifemate.
Z'ku hurried to the pens, heart beating wildly as he caught sight of
Meledei. Last time he'd thought Xemroth was too young, but what
happened at Dragonsfall gave him new confidence. If a yearling_brown_
could catch a gold, surely his bronze had a good chance. Xemroth
rumbled his eagerness as his eyes whirled. This time Elleth would be
his!
The older bronze burst out of his weyr and landed with a crouch near the
feeding pens to watch Elleth with intensity. He barely paid attention to
the
younger dragons that watched; his sole focus was on the glowing young
gold.
He gave a low croon of encouragement towards Elleth, and as he watched and
waited his muscles bunched in preparation to launch himself into the air
after her.
Familiar with the sudden surge of need, D'hol hurried towards where the
other riders assembled and took his place in the loose semi-circle around
Meledei. Like his bronze, he paid little attention to the other riders,
allowing his sharp gaze to center solely on the woman in front of him.
Elleth's tail twitched, a gesture that was sensual and feline in nature.
Her eyes whirled as her jaw clenched tighter to squeeze every drop out of
the hapless beast. With a sudden motion, she dropped the creature and
silently leaped into the air.
Xemroth shot after her, eager to chase but holding back a bit. This
was not a green flight that would be short and fast. He would have to
endure to catch the lovely gold, and outsmart the older bronzes. It
was a challenge, and Xemroth loved challenges.
Taldeth joined the Flight, pushing off the ground to follow the
gleaming golden body of the queen. His every instinct was tuned to
Elleth. He watched her every move, hoping for some small sign that
would allow him to sneak in amongst the others and win the Flight.
On the ground, T'nom was one with this bronze. No other Flight they
had chased in had invigorated the young bronze in the same way. This
was a gold flight and not just_any_ gold flight at that. He knew his
riders affinity for Elleth's, and that played into his own desire for
the golden queen.
Mnoranth leaped off the ground after the little gold almost as quickly
as the younger bronze. He was at once possessive and courtly in his
calls to Elleth. }:Beautiful Elleth:{ he called. }:You know I will fly
you high and well:{
Taldeth wanted to push the older bronze out of his way to get him
closer to the glorious gold.
}:I, too, will fly you high and well,:{ he called out to her. Having
never participated in a gold flight before, Taldeth was at a slight
disadvantage over the more experienced bronzes that were chasing the
golden Elleth. }:I'm young and strong:{ He added, pumping his wings to
keep chase.
Elleth ignored any calls to her and she certainly didn't make any
calls of her own. Some golds liked to tease. She didn't do so, at
least, not with any sort of words. She teased with her actions. A
flick of her wing, a twist of her tail, a glance, a grin. She goaded
them with her silent ways and rose higher and higher. She led them on
a merry chase. Small she may be, but that did not mean she was easy
to catch.
She led them along without any thought to any of them save that she
wasn't going to make it easy. Higher and higher she drew them
upwards. From time to time she would turn her head, then suddenly
change directions. It was during one of these little stints that she
twisted and then suddenly found herself enveloped in the embrace of a
bronze. She let out a cry which was echoed by her lifemate far below
on the ground. As Elleth twined her body with Taldeth's, Meledei's
sought T'nom's.
Taldeth flew after the lithe, tricky gold. Elleth twisted and turned
so rapidly that at times it was hard to to keep up with her. He pumped
his wings, his youth allowing him to push himself. He was growing
tired, but Taldeth wasn't going to give up the chase. She turned away
from him almost towards the other bronzes. Taldeth wanted to growl
with frustration. He pumped his wings harder. He wasn't with the
others. He was off to the side, coming from a different angle to try
and catch up, to catch the golden beauty.
And then it happened! She turned towards him. It was sudden and
unexpected. The bronze pulled her towards him. He'd caught her! He'd
won! Enveloping her in his wings, they began the spiraling dance of
the sky.
On the ground below, Taldeth's rider, wrapped his own arms around the
lithe form of Meledei. The two would become one in rhythm to their
dragon partners of the sky.
Mnoranth wheeled away with a scream of frustration the arrowed back to
the Weyr to find a willing green. On the ground R'enh reflected his
lifemates need and turned into a waiting pair of arms for relief.
D'hol grimaced as he turned away. He'd lost flights before, and he'd
never enjoyed the loss. Finding a willing woman near the flight room
was easy enough and he took advantage of the moment to slake his own
needs.
Xemroth roared his frustration, his rider echoing him on the ground.
Bitter frustration filled Z'ku and he reached for someone beautiful,
someone willing. Anything to make him feel better, even if he knew it
was only temporary.
