}:Panitath's calls us.:{ Donneth told his rider.
**She does?*** There was a note of curiosity in K'deren's mental voice.
**Tell her I'm coming, and as her if she is okay.**
}:Donneth's comes:{ crooned Panitath. She'd lain down on her couch and
made a cradle of her forearms where her lifemate lay sobbing. Her eyes
whirled slowly with sadness as she let her love flow.
}:She is very unhappy,:{ the gold told Donneth. }:Yours should come soon.:{
Moments later the brownrider arrived, a look of concern on his face.
"Donneth said something was wrong," he began, even as he realized just what
sort of a state his weyrmate was in.
In that moment Cyradis couldn't move from where she'd curled up but
turned a tear stained face toward her weyrmate. She struggled to talk
past the sobs but couldn't get the words out.
}:Yumath's was here:{ Panitath provided.
"Did he hurt you?" K'deren asked gently as he got down to her, reaching out
a hand to help her up.
She hadn't really cataloged it before he said anything but the back of
her head hurt. Probably from when he'd pushed her into the wall. "Not
really," she said though she rubbed the rising tender spot on the back
of her head. "Oh K'deren, he was just so viscous."
"What do you mean not really?" he asked, not missing the fact she had rubbed
her head. "If he has hurt you..." Much as he'd like to, hitting the
Wingleader was not an option, for all sorts of reasons, not in the least
their dragons and their positions in the Weyr.
"Well, I guess when he lunged and pinned me against the wall, I hit my
head." Her voice was still blurred with the tears and breathing
shuddered with her recent sobs. "He didn't actually touch me. Then
Panitath came and he left."
"Are you sure you're okay? What did he say to you?" The words came out in a
rush as K'deren tried to reassure himself, Donneth and Panitath that she was
all right. "Kielya's not here is she?"
"Yumath was courting Panitath and she's always liked him," she said.
"I'm sure he figured out how I'd be reacting to it and showed up at my
door with an 'invitation' to go for a swim in his smarmy way." She
rubbed her head where there was a small bump rising. "But I knew that
wasn't what he wanted." She didn't know how to say the rest it was
just so hard to process how very angry D'hol had been. "We were close
once but when I chose to stay with N'lon, he took it badly."
"Is he going to make trouble for you here?" The words came out even as he
thought them, D'hol could make life difficult for all of them, without
really trying.
"I don't know," she said. "But I can't let him see me like this." She
wiped her eyes with the heels of her hands and reached for K'deren to
help her up. Of course Panitath helped too and nudged her with a soft
croon of sympathy.
Cyradis knew if she showed any weakness at all, he'd be on her like a
pack of wild canines.
He took her hands and helped her up, gently bringing her into a loose
embrace. "I'm here," he told her. "No matter what, and I love you."
"I love you too," she replied immediately and laid her head against
his chest. If anything reinforced her feelings for K'deren it was the
unquestioning support he'd given her over the few months they'd been
together. He made her life easier than she could have ever imagined.
She wasn't sure what the future had in store for them but she never
questioned the fact they'd get through it together.
"I think I need a drink," she said and squeezed him.
"That I can organize," his tone was reasonably even, unlike his thoughts.
How could someone cause that much trouble, he had to know what coming back
into Cyradis' life would mean for her. Especially after what she had told
him about her last encounter with the man. It was crossing his mind that
this was deliberate, but he felt caught between a rock and a hard place;
between a need to comfort the woman he loved, and publicly knocking D'hol
into the next turn for upsetting her.
She led the way back into the weyr. }:You'll be alright now mine,:{
her lifemate promised. **I will be soon,** she returned and made her
way to the comfy couch and rubbed her temples to try and control the
ache in her head. "I think maybe something strong."
"That brandy from the Vintner Hall?" suggested her Weyrmate.
"Oh that sounds good," she said. She tilted her head from side to side
and worked her fingers along her neck when she felt the tension
building. She didn't need to get one of her sick headaches right now.
Shadow appeared near her elbow with a soft croon eyes whirling the
pale yellow of concern.
"And a warm bath afterwards? I'll scrub your back."
She sighed with pleasure at the thought. There were times when she
didn't think she deserved the loving care K'deren gave her but there
was not doubt she appreciated him beyond words. "I'll scrub yours
too," she called. "In fact let's just take those drinks into the
bathing room."
"Well that sounds like a plan."
