K'deren

After her silent and unaccepted apology to D'hol and the afternoon
with her daughter. Cyradis knew what she had to do. Before there could
be any fallout from her secret, she had to tell K'deren.

She moved through corridors until she got to his office and knocked on
the frame. "K'deren," she asked. "Do you have a few moments?"

"For you yes," he replied, a smile spreading across his face. "You know I
can always make time for you."

She smiled and closed the door. Leaning against it for a moment she
tried to gather her thoughts. She'd run on simple fear and bravado for
the last few hours with Kielya. She moved slowly toward his desk and
sat down across from him.

'Something happened today that made me realize I've done something I
have to fix and you need to know about it.'

"Oh?" an eyebrow arched in question, even as he reached across the desk to
offer his hand to her.

She placed her hand in his and closed her eyes for a moment. "You know
I was weyrmated for a long time," she'd told him this part of the
story before. "But while he was the father of the three older
children, he wasn't Keilya's."

"And?" K'deren prompted gently, sensing this could affect him.

Of course he wouldn't know the giant gulf she saw in her four
children. The three older ones were like their father, rather easy
going while her youngest was difficult. The older were fair while
Kielya was dark. But that didn't signify to the conversation right
now.

"Kielya was the result of a flight," not an uncommon thing. "But we
didn't know that until well after she was born. It was her coloring
you see." Cyradis squeezed his fingers as she saw the question in his
eyes. "D'hol."

"I see," he said mentally picturing the girl and his wingleader in his mind.
"Does he know?" he asked after a few moments.

"No," she said quickly. "He left before I could tell him. But I'm
afraid it won't take him long to figure it out. She's his spitting
image and he's met her more than once." There were so many reasons she
hadn't wanted him to know about Kielya not the least of which was the
leverage he most assuredly would use on her. He was a past master at
manipulation.

"Does Kielya know?" She was only a child, but it didn't take much for a
youngster to pick up on what was going on around them, and especially if you
tried to shield them from things. A child could imagine something far worse
than the truth and work themselves up into a state over it.

"No," she said carefully. "But they did seem to hit it off." Cyradis
couldn't think what distressed her more. The thought that D'hol would
find out or that Kielya would like him. "She always thought N'lon was
her father same as the other children. And she's come to think of you
as a father as well."

"Like Trievan," K'deren said aloud. He took his hand back, and stood, moving
around to his weyrmate. "Come here," he said, holding his arms out. "We'll
work this out."

She nodded mutely. Cyradis felt so very lucky to have found someone
like K'deren to share her life. She didn't want things between him and
his Wingleader muddied by her past. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you
before. But I don't tell anyone, I didn't want it getting back to her
even accidentally."

He nodded as he moved to hold her close. "Neither of them will hear from
me."

K'deren was strong, yet gentle and truly caring in a way she'd rarely
known in her life and she counted herself a very fortunate woman to
have met him. Not all her choices had been that clear. This one was
and she would do nothing to jeopardize it... ever.

"I love you," she said softly into his chest.

"I love you too."

She clung to him, "this is going to get much worse before it gets
better. I'm so sorry you have to be involved in it, but he has a
personal vendetta against me."

"We'll take each day as it comes," K'deren told her, even as he held her
close. "And we'll deal with it, together."

"Thank you, thank you," she said. She couldn't say it enough times to
tell him exactly how much it meant to her, In her whole life and even
through the seventeen turns she'd spent with N'lon she'd never felt so
completely happy as she did with K'deren. He seemed to be able to deal
with and understand her in a way no one had before since her mother
had passed.

She cleared her throat realizing anyone could come into his office and
see her. Reluctantly she let go and smiled into his eyes.

"I have to go see Qorri. Is there anything special you'd like for
dinner tonight?"

"Roast wherry and salad might be nice."

"Alright," she said with a smile that promised more than just the
food. "Roast wherry and salad it is."
