Thank Faranth, tomorrow was a rest day. D'hol took a seat at the
tavern with a long exhalation of breath. It wasn't something he did
often, but today after drills and an extremely long morning meeting in
which he was forced to sit right across from Cyradis, he felt the urge
to have a drink. Perhaps several. Maybe more than several. He ordered
an entire bottle of strong spirits and poured himself a hefty shot.
Thank Faranth for rest days.

N'vanik pushed open the door of the tavern with R'enh beside him. "I
hope Rhosyn isn't here." If she was, he was going to get back on
Loseth and go somewhere else.

"I think we made sure that wasn't going to happen," R'enh assured his
friend. He'd had Mnoranth check on the location of all golds which
he'd done happily though he hadn't been as happy when his lifemate had
directed him to go somewhere they were _not._

"D'hol," he smiled and waved at the other Wingleader.

Looking up from his drink, D'hol's brows arched at the appearance of
R'ehn and N'vanik. Waving them over, he lifted his bottle in offering.
"Looks like I'm not the only one in need of a drink."

R'enh knew for his own part that was true. He held up two fingers to
the server and pointed to the table then slid into a seat. "Hard day,"
he smiled the question.

D'hol tossed back a shot and put his glass back down on the table, his
jaw tight. "Faranth, yes." He glanced at N'vanik.

The Weyrleader took a seat. "Misery loves company, or so they say."

When the server came with two more glasses R'enh ordered some snacks
and an ale in addition to the hard liquor they were going to be
consuming. He reached for the bottle and poured for N'vanik before
himself. "So what brings you here tonight D'hol?" He tossed back his
shot and blew out a breath "Besides this?"

"Indeed it does, apparently." D'hol poured another drink, but instead
of downing it, sipped at it. His brow furrowed as he peered at his
unexpected companions. "I needed a drink." His lip quirked. "And to
get away from the Weyrwoman."

"Your past with her not staying in the past?" N'vanik asked before
taking a drink.

At that, D'hol threw back his shot and poured one for both R'ehn and
N'vanik before he snorted. "Does it ever?" He was getting pleasantly
warm around the ears and tension around his shoulders was blissfully
relaxing. He held up a finger. "The problem with goldriders...as I see
it, is that they can run roughshod all over the men in the weyr and
nothing can be done about it." He held up his glass. "Except this."

N'vanik filled his glass again. "Oh, I don't know. I'm pretty good at
driving goldriders off."

"It appears I may be following in your footsteps," R'ehn said to N'vanik
with a twisted smile and tossed off another shot. "I agree D'hol," he
nodded sagely at the other Wingleader. "They just think they own
everything around and treat the rest of us like dirt with impunity."

"It's something we all have in common." D'hol lifted a glass in a mock
salute before tossing back another shot and filled the glasses again
with a slightly wider smile."I get the feeling that we're not all
talking about the same wonderful Goldrider..."

"Nope." N'vanik took another shot.

"I'm sure we're not. Though I think the two of you both have some
grief with the Weyrwoman, I've yet to have the pleasure. Mine is with
one that doesn't' take 'I'm sorry,' for an answer."

D'hol eyed his drink and his lips thinned. He was far more relaxed,
his cool mask falling and his face far more mobile and expressive. "Or
one that won't apologize." He snorted and scowled before gulping down
another shot. "Or think that she's done anything wrong."

N'vanik snorted. "You're sharding right about that. I get treated like
dirt and I'm just supposed to _forget_ about it?"

"Well," R'enh mused. "What can you do when they really can tell you to
go away and you have no choice?" He shook his head.

Swallowing with a grimace and a snort, D'hol lifted his glass. "We can
commiserate. Drink to forget 'em for a bit." He poured all of them
another shot. "For a while, we can pretend that we don't have to
listen."

"To goldriders." N'vanik lifted his glass. "Can't live with 'em, can't
have baby dragons without 'em. Though I sharding wish we could."

"Sharding pains, the lot of them," R'enh agreed lifting his glass to
touch the others.

"But sharding good in the furs." D'hol sighed and frowned deeply.
"There's the rub." He clinked his glass against theirs. "We're all screwed."

N'vanik laughed. "Literally."
