Cosani

Cosani set her tray down across from the handsome Wingsecond. "You look grumpy."

R'enh's lips twisted into half a smile and shook his head. "You're
very perceptive."

"Maybe I could cheer you up." She took a bit of roast wherry as her
eyes stayed on him.

R'enh smiled a genuine smile this time. She was a lovely and talented
bed partner and ordinarily he'd take her up on the offer without a
second thought but this time his 'grumpy' as she put it, wouldn't be
helped with a romp in the furs. "I"m sure you could," he replied
though he left the 'but' unsaid it still hung there in the air.

"But you're not interested." Her gaze dropped to her plate.

"Cosani," he reached out for her hand. He didn't want to cause her any
pain but he didn't know how to explain it to anyone. "Hey," he said
trying to get her to look back up. "Maybe we could go for a walk? It's
just..."

Pride urged her to refuse. He'd already said he didn't want her, so
what else could he say? But the stupid part of her wanted to spend
more time with him. Cosani glanced up at him. "I guess."

There'd been a time when R'enh's panacea for difficult riders was
exactly what she'd offered. But this time was different. He didn't
really know how to handle the situation and maybe Cosani would just
let him talk. "Alright," he thrust a chin at her food. "Finish up and
we'll get out of here."

She didn't have much of an appetite now, but she made herself eat half
her food before standing up. "Lead the way."

He could tell she wasn't all that happy with him so he took her hand
as they walked out of the dining hall. But once they were outside and
moving toward the beach he turned toward her. "Can I ask your advice
about a problem I'm having with Meledei?"

Of course he liked Meledei. Everyone liked Meledei. Though she was her
friend, Cosani couldn't help being jealous. "I guess."

"Okay," he said and squeezed her hand. He lead her to the seawall and
leaned against the rocks. A light breeze lifted her hair and he
regretted his decision in turning her down. So he pulled her against
him and wrapped his arms around her waist so they could both watch the
salmon sky change to red.

"She said some hurtful things. So, I walked away and when she came to
apologize I wouldn't listen." Cosani in his arms was somehow
comforting even if she was a bit stiff.

Being held was good. Talking about Meledei wasn't. "So you've been fighting?"

"More like ignoring and going about my job. I did try once but it was
no good." He put his chin on her shoulder as they both looked out at
the sunset. "An now the abysmal flight and I feel like it's my fault.
Making her angry could have just made Elleth chose a very young
bronze. It's not good and I don't know how to fix it."

"Maybe you just need time?" Cosani had no idea how to fix their
relationship, and a selfish voice suggested she might not want to.

"Maybe," he said softly. At least she'd listened a little. "Thanks for
listening," he said and kissed her cheek. "Still want to cheer me up?"

She turned, a smile tugging at the corner of her lips. "Yes."

"Let's go grab a nice bottle. I have a rather large bed that needs
messing up. Think you can help me with that?" He knew he'd kind of
stretched their friendship a little and wanted to make it up to her
for tolerating him in a difficult mood.

"I'd love to help." Cosani slipped her arms around his neck and kissed
him. Her body heated with lust, but her stomach also did that funny
flip thing that only seemed to happen around R'enh.

"Good," he said after a moment and then pulled her close again. He
swept some hair from her eyes and tucked it behind her ear. "Sweet
Cosani," he said with a smile. Then he took her hand and led her
toward the steps to his weyr. He felt the heat building with every
step for though he hadn't thought this was what he wanted originally
the closer they got to his bed the better he felt. He pushed his door
open and only turned one glow before he began a slow assault on her
clothing.

If anyone else had called her 'sweet' she would have protested, but
coming from R'enh she didn't mind it so much. Soft noises escaped her
as he undressed her. The desire she felt grew until she almost
couldn't stand it. She stripped off his shirt and reached for his
trousers. "R'enh ... faster."

R'enh gave a deep throaty chuckle as her impatience manifested itself
but she didn't have to worry for he was already quite prepared to take
her where she wanted to go.

"How's that," he said after his trousers dropped. Then he advanced,
pushing her back onto the furs of his big bed.

"Better." She pulled him down on top of her, a wicked smile on her face.

He pulled his knees up under him and picked her up like a sack of
firestone and threw her farther up the bed to land in the middle of
his pillows. Then he dove on top of her with a chuckle. "Minx," he
growled as he began an athletic assault on her person.

R'enh fell to the side breathing heavily. "Oh, I needed that," he
smiled and reached to pull her into his arms.

"Me too." She relaxed against him with a little smile.

Cosani could be prickly but at least he understood her in a way he'd
never understand Meledei. That and she was fun to be around. "Hey, I
have a nice bottle of wine, would you like some?"

"Sure." Sometimes she didn't like to linger with men. When she got
what she wanted, she left. But she liked R'enh, more than she wanted
to admit. He was nice without being _too_ nice, and a little rough
without being jerky.

"Alright," he hopped off the bed and went out into the other room to
fetch the bottle and a couple of small glasses. While he was there he
also got some cheese and crackers. Tucking the bottle under his arm he
carried the loot back into his bedroom. "Here," he said. "You didn't
finish your dinner."

"I wasn't wasn't very hungry." She'd almost forgotten being upset now
that she'd gotten what she wanted. "But I _did_ work up an appetite."
Cosani reached for the food and started nibbling.

"Good," he smiled and picked up a piece of cheese to pop into his
mouth. Then he crossed his legs on the bed and set about opening the
bottle of wine. Splashing a bit into each of the glasses he handed her
one. Then he stoppered the bottle and set it on the floor. "So," he
said picking up a small piece of fruit and leaning back on an elbow.
"What's new with you Cosani?"

She shrugged. "Nothing, really."

He tilted his head. He found it odd that absolutely nothing remarkable
had happened to her recently or perhaps it had and she just didn't
want to share. He understood that completely, 'though he did like to
be able to have a conversation with a woman beyond just sharing
pleasure.

"That's too bad," he said.

Her heart beat fast though she did her best to stay calm on the
outside. "Maybe you can help make my life more interesting." Cosani
took a bite, silently telling her stomach to stop that stupid
fluttering.

"That might be fun," he said. "Why don't you stay with me tonight and
we can explore the possibilities."

A different kind of nervousness filled her, old fears of a man trying
to lay claim to her. Getting too close. But this was R'enh, and he
wasn't like that. Her mood swung around to excitement and she smiled.
"Sure."
