The last few weeks had been a strain with everything they'd been going
through but Cyradis had worked hard, harder than she'd worked in a
long time with N'vanik to put things in motion. They would get through
this and bring Dolphin Cove back to strength.
But as a result of all the work and worry, she wasn't sleeping well so
she kept very late hours. By the time she'd gotten home everyone was
already asleep and she slipped into the darkened Weyr with only a
single glow lighting her way. She moved silently to the bed and
cuddled up to her sleeping Weyrmate. In moments she fell into a deep
sleep.
~~Dreams~~
It felt like a flight. It felt like a very good flight. Cyradis knew
she was Weyrwoman and she had a new Weyrleader but who. She turned to
look but could only see his back. "Hello Weyrleader," she said with a
smile.
The response she got was a sleepy murmur. The flight had been high and
lasted a good long while, tiring rider and dragon both, in terms of flying
and completing the act afterwards.
When all she got was a grunt, she shifted her weight and turned.
"K'deren?" That back looked like her Weyrmate's and yet not. She
didn't know what to make of it. Her mind went back over what she
remembered of the flight and couldn't' remember the big brown getting
close enough to catch Panitath.
"No," came the response as her bed partner rolled over, a quizzical look on
his face."
A hand flew to her mouth. "K'sedel? But how?"
"You don't remember?" A puzzled look crossed the Weyrleader's face. "We were
having dinner, Ciara and I, with you and K'deren when Panitath rose. I
didn't have time to get Nikornath out of the Weyr before he was in with the
chase."
Cyradis began to tremble as the permutations ran through her brain faster
than a vtol's wings. The palm of her hand went to her forhead and she let
out a wordless puff of breath. How was she going to be able to handle the
knowledge that she just been with K'deren's father?
She slid off the bed to grab her dress with her back turned to him. But it
was hard to reach and her eyes fell to her belly. "Pregnant? I'm pregnant,"
she screeched. "How could ti possibly...."
K'sedel sat up, pulling the sheet up to cover himself. "That's why we were
having dinner, we were celebrating the good news."
"Oh my goodness," her hand lifted to her mouth. "How must K'deren
feel? Or N'vanik!" Her eyes popped open and she laughed. "Or Rhosyn!"
"We can deal with that later," K'sedel said gently. "Stay here for a bit, we
probably need to talk, because there will be gossip."
"Alright," she said as the dress settled over her pregnant belly.
"What kind of gossip?"
"You're mated to my son, they're going to talk about that, about how we'll
be compared. and N'vanik, and a million and one other things." He reached
down to the floor, finding his shirt, and pulling it over himself.
She recovered slowly from her first stunned reaction then let her
inner Weyrwoman take over realizing he spoke the truth. She shook her
head, "N'vanik has to be livid."
"We'll talk to him together," K'sedel assured her. "We'll have to work
something out, for the dragons."
"Okay," she said realizing his experience was far greater than
either hers or N'vaniks in leading a Weyr. "But what about Riverbluff?
You can't lead two Weyrs."
"I know, and we, or at least I will have to talk to Rhosyn. She'll have to
find candidates for her gold's next flight."
Cyradis nodded. "I'll go with you," she said. "Though I doubt we'll
beat the news." Somehow they were all going to have to work with this.
"I just wonder how K'deren and Ciara are feeling about it. Though I
have to say that Panitath is very happy with Nikornath."
"We'll have to talk to them as well," he could well imagine his weyrmate
feeling confused by happenings, and having to explain this to his son.
Still, there was the time K'reyel's Erdenth had outflown Nikornath to the
Weyrleadership, he could draw on that experience.
"Alright," she smiled as she sat back on the bed. She twisted her neck
still feeling the pull of the flight rush. "K'sedel," she said softly
and leaned toward him.
The after effects of a flight couldn't always be ignored. He moved closer to
her, giving her the time to decide if she was sure.
She leaned closer still and placed a soft kiss on his lips.
Which told the bronzerider beside her all he needed to know, as he responded
to the kiss.
Cyradis responded to the kiss with the hunger of her lifemate's flight
but...
~~~~
She bolted upright in bed "Nooooooo," Cyradis squalled heart pounding
panic. Her hands quickly found a flat belly, not the rounded abdomen
she'd half feared she'd find. But the shadowed back beside her looked
just like...
"Are you okay?" K'deren rolled over, then pushed himself till he was sat up.
He studied his weyrmate in the gloom for a moment, before partially opening
a glow on his side of the bed. "Something scare you?"
Just knowing it was K'deren who'd been sleeping beside her helped her
come back to reality. "Just a bad dream," she said feeling just a
little embarrassed.
"Want to tell me about it?" he asked. Sometimes that made it easier.
She shook her head and the scrubbed at her face. "It was a very
unexpected winner of a flight. I just.... " she wasn't quite sure she
wanted to repeat the whole thing and honestly the intensity was fading
the more time went by.
"Just?" K'deren cocked his head to one side as he listened. "Something
bothered you about it."
She gave a heavy sigh. "It was Nikornath." She shivered.
K'deren really wasn't sure he wanted, or needed to know the rest of that
particular dream. Mentioning the name of his father's dragon was somewhat
unsettling to say the least. "Are you sure?" he asked after a moment.
"Oh yes. There was no doubt," she said. She couldn't help the
involuntary shudder as she lay back down on her pillow facing him.
There had been one thing about the dream that had made her happy
though. Something she hadn't thought about before. But she did truly
love K'deren. "I was pregnant with your baby," she smiled softly up at
him. "I liked that part."
"I like the sound of that too," he said. "Maybe it's a way of telling us
something."
"Well if you mean about a baby, I wouldn't mind in the least," she
replied and caressed the side of his face. Especially since she now
had a strong Wingsecond who would be able to handle things while
either she or Panitath were gravid. "We could...," she made her
suggestion with her other hand.
That suggestion was met by an answer of his own as he lifted his lips to
hers.
