What: The Headwoman and her drudges descend on the new goldrider's weyr with
the Weyrwoman's supervision.

The headwoman had called some of her drudges to help her. They
were
going to clean out the vacant weyr and get it ready for the
new
goldrider coming. The Weyrwoman was supposed to give Qorri
some
direction to go in as far as decorations and the like. Mop and
dustrag
in hand, Qorri descended on the space.

Calla followed her
obediently, bucket filled with soap water was
sloshing in his hand. Ciendra
carried her arms full of clean linens
and bedfurs.

"Calla, please mop
the floor. Ciendra, we'll need to turn and air out
the mattress for a bit
before we make it." She liked
the idea of activity and would love the clean
smell that would
permeate the place once they were done. Qorri wasn't afraid
to get
down and work herself. The headwoman began scrubbing and dusting
the
bare walls. Once that was done, they could move in the
furniture.

Calla attacked his task with his single-minded
eagerness.

"Do you know who will be moving in here?" Ciendra asked. She
knew the
Weyr was looking for new Weyrwoman's second and this was
goldrider's
weyr. She took out the mattress. "I'll take this out for a bit to
air
it."

"Hopefully we will be getting a new goldrider soon. Cyradis
needs to
give me the final word on who but it's safe to say we will
finally
have another older breeding gold." And that would be welcome
after
what happened with Elleth. Qorri knew Meledei was young but
they
couldn't have things like that. Not in a Pass after what had
happened
before. "We'll need to get one of the better headboards out of
stores,
a desk, a table, chairs, wardrobe, and some clothes chests. Maybe
a
dressing table...I think I saw one with a looking glass." She
was
ticking things off in her mind. "Rugs too of course." Heavy
tapestries
didn't do well on the walls in Dolphin Cove. It was too hot,
but Qorri still
liked to cover the stone floors so one could walk barefoot
and not go sliding.

"More Clutches to me to Stand on," Ciendra said
cheerfully and dragged
the matress to the ledge. "Calla, could you come here
for a moment, to
help me to shake it out?

Calla left his mop to lean
against the wall and walked over to Ciendra.

"Grab that end and then we
will give it a very good shake out,"
Ciendra had learned how to deal with the
brain damaged drudge.

Qorri watched the two of them for a moment and then
smiled despite
herself. Ciendra was a kind soul and treated others with
respect, even
Calla. That was a good trait and would make her a good rider
someday
if it was meant to be. Not like that Varija.

With the mattress
taken care of, Calla help the girl to carry it back
to bed before returning
to mop the floor.

"'Tis a nice weyr," Ciendra said with a look around
before she started
to make the bed.

Cyradis had gotten away from her
meeting with N'vanik a little later
than she'd planned so she didn't get to
the cleaning party quite as
soon as she intended. "Qorri," she queried as she
came through the
door. "Oh this is looking much better," she smiled at the
others.

"Cyradis, I'd like you to come into stores with me and choose the
furniture.
Ciendra-Calla you can both handle the rest of this for a moment,
can't you?"
Qorri looked over at her drudges, expecting them to say
yes.

"Yes, ma'm," Ciendra replied with a smile. Calla just
nodded.

"Of course," Cyradis smiled. She made particular effort to smile
at Calla.
"You're doing a great job here." she added. Then she turned back to
Qorri.

"Did the technicians already get this one wired? I gave them
express
instruction the other day."

"I don't know. Haven't tried it
yet since it's not dark." The
waste-not-want-not part of Qorri wouldn't turn
on lights in the day.
And the part of her that abhorred technology was
avoiding the whole
thing.

Ciendra and Calla continued their
work.

"Well let's take a look at that furniture," Cyradis bustled toward
the
door following Qorri. She would have trusted to the Headwoman
to
select the appropriate items but she was more than happy to give
her
opinion and make the weyr most comfortable for their newest
rider.
