Description: Packing for her move, Tavia has an unexpected visitor
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 20 of Turn 7
The headwoman stood at the entrance to the greenrider's weyr, thinking
about it. She knew Tavia was planning on leaving but not when.
So she'd gotten herself ready and come up here, hoping to catch the
woman before drills. "Tavia?"
Tavia had been packing some of Kaiavin's things while he had his last
day with his foster mother. For a moment the voice sounded like her
mothers so she just called from the baby's little alcove. "In here."
Heading inside, Qorri saw what she was doing and relaxed somewhat.
"So, I was just wondering when you were planning on going, m'dear? Of
course which things to take and which will stay and you know we'll help
you pack and load right?" A green dragon could only take so much. She
knew the bronzerider might help but Qorri didn't assume anything.
"Oh, hi Qorri," Tavia smiled. "I'm just packing some of the baby's
things. But we'll be going in a couple of days. U'kaiah and I found a
great weyr yesterday and they're cleaning it and getting it ready for
us to move."
That was curious. So Tavia was going to live with the bronzerider but the
other greenrider wasn't. And the woman seemed not to realize what she
was getting herself into. "Do you have everything you need? And do you
know what you're leaving behind?"
Tavia smiled. "Oh I'm leaving all the furniture of course and taking
only my and Kaiavin's clothing. I've already packed up most of my
knick knacks. Dragonsfall is providing the bedding for both of us
since their climate is so different." She thought a moment and then
added. "I've already sent all the maternity things I'd borrowed back
to storage. Then there are the wall hangings. The only one I would
like to take is the one over Kaiavin's crib. He's very attached to
it." The colorful hand stitched puffy quilt was of a flight of dragons
and her little boy loved it.
"That's fine." For a moment, Qorri looked unsure. It wasn't like her to get
in anyone's business so directly especially when she didn't know them
well. However, she couldn't help herself. She had moved around for a man before
coming to the Weyr. "If you don't mind me saying...Tavia, is this really what
you want to do? I mean, you know you can come back."
"Thanks," Tavia smiled and went back to her packing. Qorri's question
made her turn back with a half smile. "I do want to do it. I have to
try and make it work, you know? But thank you Qorri, for everything."
The headwoman hadn't been her particular friend but it was well known
in the Weyr that she cared about the people and had a fierce loyalty
to them. "I'll remember."
"Allright then." Why anyone would want to go to such a cold place was beyond
her. Tavia was going to freeze her butt off, poor girl. Turning, Qorri made
her way out of the weyr.
