From time to time, E'rae found himself itching. Something about the old scar and the skin stretching and whatever it did, but it was good to have something to put on it. Numbweed was overkill so he headed down to the healers to get some more of the ointment they were so fond of handing out to riders like him.

"No, no, don't lean back," Lokkun cautioned the girl, and gently tilted her head forward. "People swallow too much blood when they lean their heads back."

"But I feel dizzy," the girl with the nosebleed complained.

"I know, but it will pass," the apprentice said, and stroked the girl's forehead. "There, is that better?" he asked after a few moments.

"Yes," she said, sounding surprised.

"Okay, let me check your nose. Lift your head slowly." As his patient did, Lokkun noticed someone new with knots out of the corner of his eye. A quick look confirmed it was a dragonrider, and he motioned to the man, indicating he would be with him in a moment. "There we go. Your nose isn't bleeding any more. I'm going to wash your face, and then you'll be able to go back to your lessons."

Looking around at some of the others waiting, the bluerider was content to bide his time. It wouldn't take long to get his request filled and some of these people had worse problems. E'rae saw a man with a boil and couldn't help but shiver.

Finally able to send the girl on her way, Lokkun washed his hands yet again and anointed them with still more redwort. He was going to start getting cracks in his skin from all the washing one of these days, he just knew it. Patting his hands dry on his apron, Lokkun adjusted the collar of his canary yellow tunic and walked up to the dragonrider who had been patiently waiting. "Good afternoon, Sir," Lokkun said with respect. "How can I help you today?"

"Ah well...I was hoping to manage some of that cream you have to soothe threadscore. The old scars, that is. I had some but I've used it all and well...it hurts from time to time." Especially when he stretched the muscle and skin.

"Oh, I see." Lokkun brought out the slate and chalk he had taken to carrying in his apron pocket. Taking notes never hurt. "Is there someone specific who usually mixes and gives you that cream, or is it a general recipe I can get anywhere in the stores?"

"Far as I know it's a general thing. Since there's so many here who have been Scored, a lot of us use it." E'rae wasn't the healer. How should he know?

"All right, I can find that no problem." And on the way to getting it, he could grab a journeyman to double-check. Lokkun pocketed slate and chalk. "I'll be right back." He walked off, indeed catching a journeyman on the way. Satisfied he hadn't messed anything up, Lokkun located a jar of the appropriate ointment; a mix of aloe, a little numbweed, calendula, and other beneficial things. After some thought, he picked a jar that was a little bigger, and carried both out to the dragonrider. "Thank you for your patience, Sir. Which size would you prefer?"

"Well to save me some trips the larger jar would be better if you don't mind." Indeed, the scoring on his back was heavy and E'rae knew it.

"All right. Do you need an application now, or is there someone who could assist you?" Lokkun asked. Then he realized how that sounded, turned a little red, and hastily handed the larger jar over. "Uh, never mind."

E'rae almost laughed. "I do like men you know if you're offering." He took the jar, watching the young healer. Maybe he hadn't been in the Weyr long. That was nothing to be embarrassed about.

Lokkun turned redder, and lowered his head enough that his bangs practically hid the upper half of his face. "I like both," he mumbled. "But I- I wasn't.... I didn't mean for it to sound like that, honest. I was just trying to be helpful."

"Ah I get it. You need to be professional. No worries I won't bother you." **With a getup like that, it's pretty hard not to figure it out** E'rae still had a smile on his face. "I've got a pregnant woman who will do it for me anyway. Thanks for the jar."

"You're welcome, Sir. I hope it helps." Lokkun turned and walked off again, passing another apprentice once he was out of earshot.

"Did you accidentally flirt with a dragonrider again?" the apprentice asked, noting the blond's hunched shoulders and flushed complexion.

"Yes," Lokkun said. "And if anyone needs me, I'll be banging my head on the wall in supply closet seven."
