Saibra

Saibra

Qorri had seen the new goldrider arrive and knew it was probably time
to make introductions. So once the woman had time to settle in and get
comfortable, she headed over to the weyr she had gotten ready and
prepared to offer her assistance.

After one night's rest in her new weyr at Dolphin Cove, Saibra was up
early. She had already completed her morning exercises, had a shower,
and then retreated to her office. Of course, her office was a jumbled
mess while she tried to reorganize it- moving her desk here, the
chairs there, and shoving the bookshelf into a different corner.

Making her presence known at the entrance, Qorri waited for someone to
invite her in. She had a small list with her, but that was usual. She needed
to know if everything was to Saibra's satisfaction.

Saibra's back protested as she straightened. She had moved around so
many things in the past couple of days that her body was beginning to
protest.

}:If you had enlisted the help of more dashing bronzeriders then
perhaps you would not be so tired.:{ Chioneth pointed out dryly.

**You know me better than that.** Saibra smirked as she moved toward
the door and swung the portal open, "Headwoman," her eyes raked across
the woman's shoulder knots, "nice to meet you. Cyradis spoke highly of
you." She said as she stepped aside and gestured for the woman to come
in.

Qorri walked inside, seeing the items she had put in there arranged. There
were inklings of the woman's style in the placing she had chosen and when
she came face-to-face with the goldrider, she knew this was going to be the
start of a working relationship. "You can call me Qorri. I wanted to make sure
that you were happy with everything and that you had what you needed." Seeing
Saibra's condition, she was quickly shocked. "You know I have people to move
all of this for you." **I take care of my riders!**

A deep, throaty chuckle escaped Saibra's lips, "Yes, I know, but I
enjoy rearranging and moving things around. I promise, I haven't
lifted anything too heavy." She said as she motioned for the Headwoman
to come further into her office, "I'm afraid that I am forever
changing my mind about where I like things to be sitting," the
goldrider admitted as she pulled two chairs over for her and Qorri.

The Headwoman sat, studying the rider as if she were a strange creature.
Qorri had seen many goldriders come and go from Dolphin Cove-all of them
different. What would this one be like? And would she stay? "Well I wanted to
say welcome to Dolphin Cove. And on behalf of me and my staff, we offer our
assistance, if you ever need it."

Saibra's lips turned up into a partial grin, which was more often seen
on the woman's face than a full smile, "Thank you Headwoman, I
appreciate the welcome. Once things have settle down a bit I will
be around to visit the staff. I like being able to put names to
faces." She casually slung one leg over the other, "So tell me, Qorri,
how long have you been Headwoman at Dolphin Cove?"

"It's been maybe five turns or so now." Then again, Qorri had worked in
the Caverns before that so she had been at the Weyr for longer.

"And what of family? Do you have a weyrmate or children?" Saibra asked
curiously. She sensed the no-nonsense, hard worker behind the woman's
polite eyes and immediately, Saibra knew that she would like this Headwoman.

"Neither. I had a husband once but he died." Qorri held no ill will
toward him, but
there was no love lost either. It had been a marriage of convenience
in many ways. "I have a few fosterchildren though."

The mention of being a fostermother reminded Saibra that she had yet
to find a new one for Kaibren, "Speaking of fostering, would you be
able to help me find a fostermother for my son? I would have brought
his fostermother with us but it just wasn't an option."

"Sure...how many turns does he have?" Qorri had a list back in her office
of the available women, but it always helped to have a working knowledge
if the situation first.

"Ten Turns." He was still her little boy in many ways, and even though
Kaibren had been under the care of a foster mother previously, he was
still far clingier to Saibra than Saidrene had ever been. The mother's
side of Saibra's heart made her wish that she could have her son with
her all the time, but the dragonrider side knew that she had duty to
Pern first.

"Hmm is he good around other children or better by himself?" That was always
a concern. If they weren't used to siblings. Qorri thought about all
of this even while she considered the goldrider. The woman seemed
sensible and she wasn't too high energy, which was good.

"He usually has no problem being around other children, but he does
require a little more hands-on attention than some." Saibra didn't add
that Kaibren was so clingy because she had spoiled him by being as
active in his childhood as her schedule allowed. With K'fel's death
she hadn't been able to simply send Kaibren off to the creche without
a backwards glance the way some did. When at all possible, Saibra's
youngest was often in her weyr.

"Is that because he is often ill or?" Qorri knew most Weyr children weren't
very demanding so if one needed attention, she usually asked why.

"No," Saibra shook her head, "he's a healthy boy. After the death of
his father Kaibren has become very attached to me. I think he's just
afraid of people leaving him."

"Ah hm." Then having a steady foster family would be good for the boy in
many ways. It was necessary for weyrbrats to be able to deal with death,
especially that of their parents. It prepared them for later when they would
see their friends die beside them in the wings. "Very well, I have a few in mind
that could do the trick. I can set up some meetings if you'd like."

"That would be perfect, Qorri, thank you." Saibra had to fight her own
feelings on having her son fostered out, because she knew it was best
for him, and above all, she was a dragonrider who knew her duty.
