Cyradis

After they had gotten into the storerooms, Qorri led Cyradis over to
the pile that was going to be taken to the goldrider's weyr. It was a
sizeable pile, befitting the rank and dragon color, and the Headwoman
was glad of the chance to get some of these nice things out into the
open again. Of course she would not have this new woman regret her
posting to Dolphin Cove. No, Qorri's Weyr was just as respectable as
any other, even if it wasn't all electric like River Bluff. "So this
is what I think she might need."

Cyradis did a quick inspection of the pile of things Qorri had pointed
out to her. She recognized some of the things that had been part of
Janani's rooms and some other nicer pieces of children's furniture.
"This looks good," she said. "I seem to remember a standing mirror as
well. Do you still have that somewhere?"

"MMm....would be in the back corner. I'll get one of the boys to get
it carefully." Scribbling that onto her scrap hide, she plugged the
pencil back into her belt. "So what's this new woman like?"

"I think you'll like her," she smiled. "We had several good
applicants, so it was hard to choose. But she just had something that
made me feel she had the skill level we needed and the personality to
fit in. Besides that, she has experience training younger riders and
can help with guiding Meledei."

Qorri's mouth tightened at mention of that. "I hate to say it but lately..
Meledei seems to need a bit more guidance. She's been acting strange
and it cannot all be said to be due to Elleth's proddiness either." Qorri
was concerned and she wondered if Cyradis had picked up on it.

Cyradis sighed. She figured from the few things she'd heard that the
younger goldrider had been burning bridges but she'd hoped she would
see what she was doing and attempt to correct her courses. There was
really nothing she could do to help Meledei if she didn't come to her
to talk or of course if Cyradis herself witnessed some of it. "Do you have
any idea what's behind it?"

"Not a clue. Since it got worse I haven't really spoken to her." She shook
her head. "I mean I know young girls sometimes act foolish and make mistakes
but she's always been a sweet girl, easily friendly. Then all of a sudden
she's making bronzeriders angry and other people and...I don't know."

Cyradis nodded. "There is something that happens to goldriders
sometimes Qorri. They become so used to their lifemate's view of
others around them they take on a very demanding air and just expect
to be able to dictate their own views to others around them. Sometimes
with disastrous results. I just hope it hasn't gone too far." Cyradis
spoke from experience on this one. She herself had been guilty of
behavior that could only be attributed to that same condition.

"Hmm I always thought Elleth was a rather gentle gold to be honest,
compared to what everyone else said others act like." She wasn't so sure
that was it really, but maybe. "Do you think, maybe you could try and see
what's going on and help her? Because whether or not it is her doing, it doesn't
seem to be helping the Weyr." This was goldrider territory, not Headwoman
territory and Qorri thought it might be good for Cyradis to get more involved
with Meledei anyway.

"Gentle yes, but still gold. She knows without a doubt that with the
exception of Panitath and now Chioneth she can command any dragon in
the Weyr. That's what's tricky about the whole thing." Cyradis mused
for a moment. "Perhaps I'll consult with our new Wingsecond. Maybe
she's had to deal with this before as well and we can help Meledei
without ruining her spirit."

"I hope so. She's a good girl, but she can't continue like this." Qorri thought
of the clutch. **The Weyr can't continue like this either.** Looking again at
the furniture, she scribbled a few more things.

"I agree Qorri." She hadn't really made a point for private time since
the clutching. She'd been too angry at first and had wanted to cool
down. But more than a sevenday had passed and it was time. She smiled,

"I'll speak with her."

"Now," she said looking around the storage room. "Is there a chest for
the foot of her bed like the one you got for me?"

"Over there, Weyrwoman," Qorri pointed obligingly before walking over to
Cyradis to finish the inventory.
