Maybe a bit of attention doesn't hurt

It had taken some doing, but Qorri had gotten the greenrider's weyr
repaired. Finally done, she had sent Naevyn a message via a drudge to let
her know she needed to have a look and then she could move in if she was
satisfied.

Naevyn had received the Headwoman's note just after drills, deciding it
wouldn't do to go and see the Headwoman sweaty and stinking of firestone. So
she'd had a very quick bath she was already feeling guilty about by the time
she was halfway out. Tying her wet hair behind her head quickly, she threw
on her clothes and rushed for the woman's office. It wouldn't do to keep
important people like her waiting.

"Who's there?" Qorri called easily, thinking maybe it was the boy with the
rolls she'd asked for.

"It's greenrider Naevyn, Ma'am," Naevyn called in, her hand resting on the
doorknob, but not daring to come in without being bid. "You asked me to come
over?"

"Wanted to let you know that your weyr was done and you should have a look
at it to make sure everything's fine before you move back in." Qorri brushed
off her skirts.

"Oh, thank you so much, Ma'am," Naevyn said, sounding quite relieved. Her
temporary weyr had been in a crowded corridor and she was looking forward to
the comfortable quiet of her home. "And I'm sure it's fine."

"Still have a look." The headwoman got up and opened the door. "Naevyn dear,
in future if there is ever anything, don't hesitate to come down here all
right? I like my riders taken care of."

"I will.. try to keep that in mind, Ma'am," Naevyn said shyly, the usual
blush creeping back up on her face. If you had lived most your life being as
inconspicuous as possible, it became a hard habit to break.

"Aye you do that. By the way, while I was at it, I laid down some rugs and
might have found a few other things I thought you might want." Of course it
wasn't anything that a young greenrider wouldn't have but maybe Qorri had
picked a few things out of stores since she had felt bad for having to move
the girl.

"Oh, but Ma'am, you shouldn't have," Naevyn replied, looking shocked. "After
having to fix my weyr.. I've been enough trouble as it is!"

"Aye but it disrupted your life and duties and here you are flying Threadfall
and everything else for Pern. So I don't think it's too much." Qorri's tone
said there would be no argument.

Naevyn's mouth turned into a little 'o' and then she ducked her head,
embarrassed. "Alright, Ma'am, thank you. You're too kind." It had been a long time since
she had gotten any kind of gift and she was grateful, she just didn't really know
how to show it.

That was something she didn't get called much, though Qorri had her ways,
particularly with the younger folk of the Weyr. "Very well then, go ahead and go see."

"Yes, Ma'am," Naevyn nodded, turning on her heals and hurrying out of the
Headwoman's office. Part of her secretly eager to find out what Qorri had found for her weyr.
Maybe drawing a little bit of attention to you didn't hurt anyway.
