She knew she was awake even in the pitch dark and it had to be very
early morning, She couldn't really hear anything stirring and other
than K'deren breathing deeply next to her all the world was silent. So
she decided just just rise as silently as possible and pad to the
necessary.
Turning a glow in the small area she checked her supplies and then
checked herself. Still nothing. She was a full sevenday late and she
was _never_ a full sevenday late. So it meant only one thing.
Unlike many other riders she didn't need dolphins to tell her when she
was pregnant. She was as regular as the moons and could count her
cycle in sevendays and candlemarks.
On one hand she was happy and the other realistic. But for now she was
going to concentrate on the happy.
Going back to her room she turned a single glow and sat on the edge of
the bed looking down at her weyrmate with a soft smile and whispered
his name.
"K'deren?"
"Mmm," came a sleepy moan. "You okay? Or is it the children?" he asked after
a moment.
"I'm ok," she said and brushed a few wisps of hair across his
forehead. "The children are asleep." She knew he was probably drifting
back there himself. "K'deren," she whispered again. "We're going to
have another baby."
That was enough to wake him up, he shifted slightly to sit up. "Say that
again?"
She knew it was rather a shock. She'd had a few days to come to terms
with the fact of it but he was getting the news cold. "You're going to
be a father... again." she smiled.
"Are you sure?" he returned her smile. "This isn't a dream is it?"
She chuckled and scooted up next to him. "Nope, not this time. My
breasts are sore and I missed."
An arm went out to pull her close. "A baby, _our_ baby," he said. "That
makes it worth being woken up. Although I suspect that will happen more
often when he or she comes."
She smiled and put her head on his shoulder. "I'm so glad we have
Saibra here now. I won't have to worry about the wing so much when I
can't fly Thread."
"So many people we'll have to tell," he said, his mind jumping ahead. "The
children, our families, N'vanik..."
"Yes," she smiled, "we'll have to tell them. But not quite yet." She
shifted to look up at him in the dim of the glow. "I'd like to just
savor the moment for a little while with you."
"Our own special secret," he leaned over to give her a gentle kiss.
"Our own secret," she repeated and returned the kiss with a heart full
of love. "For the few candle marks we can keep it that is." She wasn't
under the illusion it would remain a secret very long.
"Maybe we'll manage a whole sevenday," he teased.
"Only if we're very lucky." she agreed. "I wish we could go back to
that little Inn."
"Once it is safe for you we could, but until then, maybe we can recreate
some of the memories we made that night?"
"You read my mind as easily as Panitath," she said with throaty
chuckle. She could make out his face more easily as the sun began to
color the morning outside and the light was reflected into her weyr.
"What are we waiting for?" he asked with a smile.
"I can't think of a single thing," she said sliding on the bed and
pulling him toward her.
