She had asked around the infirmary after speaking with Bahji and she?d finally found the apprentice. Coming up behind him, she called his name, hoping he would answer quickly. She needed to have this done. ?Lokkun??

Said apprentice had been in a foul mood for a few days. First, a patient under his master's watch had been assaulted and lost her unborn. Secondly, another apprentice had stolen his favorite sash, the one that had belonged to his lost love M'yan. He still had the headband that had belonged to his other lost love, Azeali, but it wasn't much comfort. Thirdly, he knew where the sash had gotten to, but despite the other apprentice's confession when confronted, Lokkun couldn't do a damn thing because he could not just up and accuse a master manipulator of possessing his stolen property; it would be her word against his.

Add the fact he wasn't used to being angry for so long, and it was no wonder he was distracted during his chores. Distracted enough that when addressed by an unfamiliar person he hadn't sensed coming, Lokkun jumped with a loud "Gah!" and whirled around. He choked on air and almost died when he realized who had addressed him. "Weyrwoman!" He bowed.

She seriously hated this bowing nonsense. She wasn't a Lady Holder or any of that. "Get up. I need to talk to you." She gestured that he should find a quiet place somewhere.

"Yes ma'am!" Lokkun looked around almost frantically, and finally picked one of the closer storerooms, motioning for Rhosyn to follow him. "Can I ask what this is about?"

Once they were inside and she ensured the door was shut, the Weyrwoman turned toward him. "A few sevendays ago, a girl named Bahji came to see the healers. She said you were there. Some other girl was rude to her. I need to know who the girl was and what was said and done."

The slim boy got a bad, twisting feeling in his guts. "I'm afraid I don't know her name, ma'am," he said, "but I can describe her." And he did. "She was absolutely horrible to Bahji, trying to degrade her for being blind, and flirting with me like the fate of Pern depended on it." He recounted their conversation, then paused, wondering if he should tell Rhosyn about how Eirlira came back. It probably wasn't relevant.

"And you don't have her name anywhere? Like in appointment records or anything?" Not that the Weyrwoman couldn't find her. There were only so many people in the Weyr-and even less in that turn group. "Have you ever encountered this girl at other times? Has she behaved oddly then?"

Lokkun hesitated. "Yes," he finally said. "She claimed to know something about Bahji, but I didn't believe her. Not after her slatternly behavior when last we met. She indeed offered nothing, and I went back to work. Then she...." He paused again. "What I'm going to say next is going to sound really petty and unhelpful," he admitted. "She seduced one of the other apprentices and convinced him to steal something from me. He confessed, but I can't accuse her of anything."

"Hmmm so she tends to want to get back at people. But what did Bahji do to her to cause that animosity?" Rhosyn was thinking inside her head. **The girl's disability!** "Lokkun, go check those records. I need her name. Ask the other apprentice for it."

"Yes ma'am." And instead of checking the records, Lokkun went after his fellow apprentice again. Laudan was probably still feeling a little guilty, because all Lokkun had to do was put on a furious expression, grab his arm, and demand the slattern's name. Laudan spilled it like milk. It did not take long for Lokkun to find Rhosyn again and give her the news: "Her name is Eirlira."

"Very well." That name did cause the Weyrwoman anger. The little trundlebug! Right under her nose! "Don't let her near Bahji if you see her here. And don't spread it about that I spoke with her or asked questions. I'll deal with the matter." With that Rhosyn gave him a nod before heading off, clearly on a mission.

Lokkun watched her go, feeling a little better. Maybe something could finally be done; maybe real proof could be found, and maybe Eirlira would be forced to pay restitution to Bahji in some way. Maybe to him, too. But especially to Bahji.
