He had watched her dance with his wingleader, emotions mixed as he saw them
twirl past. She seemed clearly comfortable in the bronzerider's arms, but
whether that was familiarity, or turns of practice at formal events he
couldn't determine from where he sat at the side, talking to a couple of
riders from his wing.

Soon enough though, the music came to an end, and that was his cue. Rising
to his feet, he made his way over to his weyrmate.

"May I have the next dance?" he asked.

"Of course," she smiled and placed her hand in his. This time the
smile on her face was genuine and her eyes sparkled with love. He was
so sharding handsome in his Gather tunic.

"I've been waiting for this all evening," he told her as they took up their
positions, waiting for the Harpers to give their cue. "Now that the really
formal part is over."

"Yes," she said. "And I can dance with who I want."

"Then lets make this one count." He swept her into his arms, holding her
closer for a moment than the music really demanded.

She smiled up at him with a little widening of her eyes to acknowledge
his bit of possessive flair. It was no secret to either of them how
much they desired one another and she responded by pressing herself
closer for a moment in response.

As the dance began, he led her through the movements. "You know, I once
heard someone say that dancing is an expression of another desire."

"I think they're right," she said lightly. "I certainly desire you."
She could actually feel the heat rising, "but I think I can be a
little patient. I know where you sleep."

"Who said anything about sleeping?" he said softly. "If I have my way, there
won't be a lot of that going on."

She gave a throaty chuckle. "Promises, promises. But I think I'll hold
you to that one brownrider."

"Oh it's a promise I think we'll both enjoy me keeping," he smiled at her.
"But for now," he lowered his lips to hers in a tender, yet loving kiss.

She responded as ardently as she could in a public venue and when she
pulled back she was almost dizzy. "Remember we still have R'enh's
birthday party after this" she whispered. "But I don't know if I can
wait."

"Take that as something to hold onto."

"Mmmm," she mused. "Gladly."

"Until later then," he said as the music came to an end.

"Better eat something," she smiled. "You're going to need your
strength."
