She had been watching and knew the signs. Lenala's own behavior confirmed it. Rhosyn had packed a bag, but there was one thing she hadn't thought of. Realizing it, she tried not to panic. Hoping against hope that Nikornath wouldn't chase, she pushed down her fear and hurried to grab Orlaith's straps. **Tell Nikornath I need his rider's help. Now!**
Orlaith understood but she was also feeling Vilarth's mood. The gold hadn't Risen quite yet but it was close. Still, the
need in her rider's thoughts was more important. }:Nikornath, mine needs help!:{
The gold herself tried to make the job easier by crouching down as low as she could, but Rhosyn searched vainly for a candidate or two to speed it along, all the while thinking of how long it took her these days to get up on her queen. She only had a sevenday or so before she couldn't fly anymore.
Praying that there would be enough time, Rhosyn worked as fast as she could, dragging the large, heavy leather straps
and fastening the buckles. She couldn't fly without straps-not now. Her Queen wasn't pulling against her yet, but if they didn't get out of there, she knew she would have a problem-a serious one. **Tell Loseth I need help. Tell him there is no time.** She hoped N?vanik would understand the message even as she almost cried while pushing to get the straps on. Could she get up there?
}:Loseth, we need to go but Mine can't do it:{ Orlaith was being pulled in two different directions. On the one hand,
she felt her Rider's upset and fear and on the other, she felt the males responding to the Flight that would happen. She had to take care of Rhosyn, but they were bronzes-hers!
Loseth passed on the urgent message to his rider. Fortunately Fall had been yesterday and N'vanik wasn't in the middle
of a crisis. He threw the straps on Loseth as fast as he could, figuring out from what his dragon had told him and what the bronze felt from Orlaith that Vilarth must be rising and Rhosyn had to get out of the Weyr. He couldn't understand why someone else couldn't help her, but there wasn't time to argue.
It was only minutes before Loseth was circling down for a landing. The dragon's attention drifted to where the other bronzes were gathering. **Don't even think about it.** N'vanik knew they were cutting it close.
Seeing him, she finished buckling the straps. Now all she had to do was get on her queen. Orlaith had gotten down flat on her belly so if Rhosyn did fall, it wouldn't be as far. "I can pull myself up if you can get behind me. If I slip, catch." **And maybe he can push too. This has got to be fast**
If it wasn't for the danger, this would be funny. N'vanik laced his hands together and bent. "This might be easier." Loseth moved his head behind Rhosyn, ready to nudge her if she slipped.
The scene was indeed ludicrous. Using him as her stepping stool, she pulled and tried to drag herself up. Groaning, she managed to get halfway, feeling like her arms were going to give out. Resting, she took some breaths, feeling Loseth
behind her. She almost cried again then, frustrated. She didn't have time for this. She'd lose Orlaith, herself, and everything else if she didn't get her fat butt up on the dragon.
Gritting her teeth, she put her foot on one of the bottom straps, and then pulled until she could get her hand around the saddle horn. Then she used that as her hold, pulling with her hands and pushing with her feet. Finally, in all of that effort, she somehow managed to get into the saddle. Exhausted, she sat there for a few moments before mechanically buckling the straps around her. "I don't think I can think of anywhere to go. Take me somewhere, please? Loseth can
give the image. We'll follow you."
With all the struggle of getting her on, he thought it might be just as hard to get her down, so it made sense to N'vanik to take her somewhere he could have help. He had Loseth take them all to Dolphin Cove. He almost turned to check, but Loseth assured him, }:They followed.:{
When they came out over Dolphin Cove, Rhosyn let herself breathe. She felt Orlaith calming down and relaxed against the
neckridge behind her. **Shells, it's hot** On top of that, she was tired and hungry now. Feeling the baby move she sighed. It had probably felt her agitation. The little person tended to get excited when she did sometimes.
}:Time to land:{ her queen warned her before Orlaith turned and then came in for a smooth landing. The big queen was trying her best to be careful, but Rhosyn's lingering distress had caused her eyes to whirl with a slight tinge of yellow. As a courtesy, she searched for Panitath. }:Panitath, we have come to rest:{
The concern of the dragons was almost palpable and Cyradis came running through the council chambers toward N'vanik's quarters. Knowing Orlaith's rider had other friends at Dolphin Cove she had Panitath call Mnoranth's as well. She popped her head into the hall and called to a drudge. "Get Qorri for me."
R'enh was already on his ledge when he got the call from his lifemate and jumped on the big bronze landing in front of the Council chamber he ran up toward where Rhosyn had landed. "Hey," he said. "Let's get you down from there." He waited
for Orlaith to settle and began to climb up to her. "Are you alright?"
She tried to give a smile, but the truth was now that she had time to think about it, it had been a scary experience. She had _never_ struggled like that to get away. She had never been close to losing Orlaith. And losing Orlaith was worse than losing anything else. Bringing her head up, she looked back at R'enh, glad he was here too. "Can you...can you give me just a moment?"
Closing her eyes, she thought over it all, remembering those moments. If N'vanik hadn't come..
Those thoughts caused more yellow to enter Orlaith's eyes and it was clearly not a good thing. }:It's okay. We're here. We're safe. It's done.:{
"I'm an idiot. I should have thought it might happen. I should have left already. I almost..." And then, sitting on top of her dragon-the most precious thing to her in the world, she started to cry as the panic she hadn't allowed herself to feel due to necessity took hold.
"Tell the Weyrwoman I'm coming!" Qorri yelled as she dropped the sheets she'd been inspecting. Grabbing up her skirts, she walked quickly through the tunnels and came out to the Queens' ledge. Seeing the rather large queen there, she
recognized that Rhosyn was there and wondered why she'd been called. "Cyradis?" she asked, confused and wondering what to do.
"Qorri," Cyradis said relieved. "It looks like they had to escape because Vilarth was rising. But Rhosyn is pregnant. Can you make sure the clutching weyr is ready to receive her? I'm not sure how long they'll need to stay. Make sure she has whatever she needs." She knew she probably didn't need to say it, the headwoman would have thought of it on her own.
"Hey hey," R'enh said as he rose up to her level in the straps. "It's okay, we'll get you down." he began to unbuckle her straps and release her while he held her against him. He knew he could climb down slowly with her between him and Orlaith. "Put your arms around my neck Rhosyn. Down is easier than up."
N'vanik slid off his bronze and stood next to Orlaith, ready to help. He felt a little lost watching her cry and wondering what he could do to make it better. It had been close, dangerously close, taking so much time to leave the Weyr and he wouldn't let himself think about what might have happened. Loseth crooned to the gold and her rider, eyes whirling with concern.
"Oh....sure." Turning around, Qorri headed off to make sure things were taken care of. That was going to be interesting. Her mind immediately went to Talryne. **Oh shardit all. N'vanik sometimes I don't know about you**
She let him take her, not fighting even as the whole experience continued to wash through her. Eventually she stopped crying. Taking a few breaths, she wiped her face and then looked at her men. "I think it would be good to sit for a little bit and then maybe..." Her look was a bit sheepish. "Well I'm always hungry." Her hand reached out for N'vanik, taking for granted he would be nearby and wanting that reassurance. She was okay-she was alive-it was fine and he was there.
**I'll be okay dear one. We made it through. I just...sometimes I can't control things right now. And it was close.**
}:I know, but we are fine. Loseth's made it allright:{ Sensing the shift in Rhosyn's demeanor, Orlaith moved closer to the bronze for the moment, though she still hovered near her rider conspicuously.
N'vanik pulled her close. "I'll get you settled in the dining cavern." He kissed her forehead, relieved he could do something to make her feel better.
