Once the wing was safely back on the ground, K'deren took a few moments to
deal with the wing members who were naturally concerned for the Wingleader.
After that, there was only one person he wanted and needed to see. Cyradis.
He needed to show here that while he may be tired and dirty, both he and
Donneth had come through this.
**Can you tell Panitath's I'm going to our weyr?** he asked of Donneth.
**Tell her I'll see here there, and I'll round um the kids to come and help
scrub you down in a few moments.**
}:Donneth's is on his way,:{ Panitath's contralto filled her head.
Cyradis dashed the tears from her eyes and rolled off the bed where
she'd been curled up after checking with the healers tending to D'hol
and Yumath.
Panic had clutched at her heart clawing at her sanity when she thought
of something like that happening to K'deren. She'd rushed back to
their shared weyr to clutch his pillow to her chest. Even with
Donneth's assurance that his was fine, the unreasoning fear had still
overwhelmed her and she'd known she couldn't be anywhere the other
residents of the Weyr could see her until she'd been able to control
herself.
She ran to the ledge that was only a flight of stairs up from the
Weyrbowl and saw him crossing the sands. Her hand rose up to her mouth
as her eyes filled with tears again.
"Don't cry," he said. "I'm here now."
"I know, I just..." she couldn't finish and threw her arms around him.
"I'm all dirty," he said, even as his own arms moved to hold her close. "I
had to let you know I was okay, Donneth too."
"I don't care," she said from where her face pressed into his chest.
"Thank you," she said turning her crackdust smudged face up to his.
Dirt or not, K'deren gave her a gentle kiss designed to reassure.
"It's so much easier when I'm up there too. This waiting on the ground
stinks." Her bottom lip shot out in a pout reminiscent of her
daughter.
"But think of the outcome," he teased gently.
"Yes," she whispered and lifted her face for another kiss. "That's
about the only think that kept me sane." Then she stepped back and
brushed at the front of her dress. "I think we need a bath."
"Give me five minutes to round up the kids to see to a bath for Donneth, and
I'm all yours."
She smiled and let him go with a sigh. "Alright," she said. "I'll be
waiting." She heard Panitath grumble something about her own bath as
K'deren strode out. **You just had one yesterday and didn't fly fall
today** Cyradis answered her. **It's my turn.**
Somehow the cloud that had been hanging over her since the accident
didn't seem quite a black as it had a moment before. Remembering the
sparkle in her Weyrmate's eyes she undressed and headed toward her
bathing pool. Stopping in front of her mirror, she turned to the side
to admire her profile. Breasts heavy from pregnancy and swelling
abdomen. "You're a lucky one," she said to the child within. "You're
daddy is a wonderful man."
A few moments later and her weyrmate was back. Stripping off, and aiming his
clothes at the laundry hamper, he headed for the bathing pool. "Donneth will
make sure they're at least a candlemark," he said, admiring the goldrider.
"Time for us now."
"Yes." She followed him down into the pool with a smile even though
the little cloud of worry about D'hol and Yumath was still there.
Right here, right now it was K'deren who brought her joy and peace.
She picked up an handful of sweetsand and began to scrub his back.
"Carry on like that, and you'll get more than a bath," K'deren teased.
She smiled and leaned over his shoulder for a moment pressing her
flesh against his back. "That's the idea isn't it," she said in her
throaty contralto.
"Oh yes," he said, slithering around in the pool, his arms bringing her
close. "Oh yes."
Black eyes looked up into blue as she slid onto his lap. Her fingers
threaded into his dark hair. Curls wrapped between her fingers where
the water and steam had moistened them. "Don't ever leave me," she
said, "I don't think I could bear it."
They both knew the realities of fighting Thread. K'deren had lost a
weyrmate to it already, but that didn't enter in to her plea. She just
knew she needed him like she needed air to breathe.
"I'm planning on staying right here with you," he told her, then placed his
lips on hers in a slow, deep kiss he hoped would tell her more than words
could.
She couldn't help but respond in the way she always did when he kissed
her like that. If anything her desperation and need deepened her
response. Her love was evident in her kiss and the hands that clutched
him to her. When their kiss finally broke both of their bodies had
been stimulated and her smile widened. "Here or the bed?"
"Whereever works for you my love."
"Well," she smirked up at him. "I'd like both, but only if you think
you're up to it after flying Thread." Perhaps it was the danger and
sudden tragedy that prodded her with such a primal need but she found
she wanted and needed him right now. She tightened her arms around his
neck and straddled his lap before pressing her lips against his again.
"Let's stay here for a while," he said softly after the kiss broke.
"Mmhmm," was about the only intelligible she said in the next few minutes.
