A Day With His Son

Description: Z'al spends a day with his son.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 2 of Turn 3

Z'al laughed as he swung his young son in circles. His heart was full to busting with the joy the small boy filled it with. He had never thought of children of his own. It was not something he had talked of with anyone. He had never even expected to find a long lost son. He had been afraid of the boy at first. Afraid of making a mistake. He had never raised a child on his own. He was glade he lived at the weyr. At least the boy would be cared for when he was fighting thread and at drills. But, now that he was a father he was a very doting father. He never missed a day of visiting with his boy. Even when he was tired from a long day of drills, he would find his way to the weyr of the young woman that had agreed to foster his boy. There he would have dinner with his son and his sisters. They had taken to watching out for the boy. The girls made sure no one bothered with him. They also spent long candlemarks playing with the boy. He meant a lot to them.

Today he was taking the boy to the beach. He smiled as the boy took off after Dis. The flit was teasing the boy by staying just out of reach of the boy. He dived then flew circles around the boy till he had him squealing with delight. It was almost more than Z'al could do not to be reduced to rolling laughter at the flits antics.

Z'al took off to chase the boy witch caused the boy to giggle and try to run. Z'al snatched him from the sands to spin him about again. Both father and son were reduced to laughter as Z'al fell on his back in the sand.
Lying there, Z'al began to pump his arms up and down with his son in them.
He was using his son as a weight. The little boy put his arms out to his sides with a smile.

"He there you go my little flit." Z'al laughed. He laughed a full-fledged laugh. Nyinth, who was lying in the sand close by, let out a loud happy bugle. He had tried to be more of himself since the thread incident. Spending a month in the infirmary had put many things in perspective. If it had not been for Zamley needing him to be strong he would probably have had a harder recovery. Then he had also met a young woman that made him feel handsome in spite of his scars.

After a couple candlemarks Z'al knew it was time to head in. Zamley was getting tired and was beginning to yawn. Z'al scooped the boy up and hugged him as he made his way back to the weyr. He smiled as his small son laid his head on his shoulder. He loved to feel the weight of his small son.

"I wuv you Daddy." He said as he put his small thumb in his mouth and began to drift off.

"I love you to my son." Z'al whispered as a tear escaped and slide down his check to fall upon the boys curly brown head.
