Happy Hatching Day! Love, Your Dragon

Writers: Heather
Date Posted: 5th February 2014

Characters: S'avn
Description: Spends his birthingday "alone"
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 5, day 13 of Turn 7
Notes: Coposts for this fella?

S'avn sighed as he looked down at the bubblypie on his plate. Another
birthingday. Another birthingday alone. "Happy 22nd birthingday to
me." He mumbled beneath his breath from the empty corner of the Dining
Cavern where he sat.

}:You are not alone. I am here.:{ Mayfeth cut into his rider's
thoughts with the strong, dependable presence that S'avn had come to
rely on. Before S'avn could respond, however, Mayfeth cut back into
his thoughts, this time to practically shout, }:HAPPY HATCHING DAY!:{

S'avn blanched a bit at the sudden, unexpected enthusiasm he felt
coming from his dragon, **What are you so excited about?**

}:If you had not Hatched then we wouldn't be together. There would
have been no one else for me, S'avn. Only you.:{ Mayfeth's words were
exactly what S'avn needed to hear, and it made the ache in his chest
lesson.

The blue Weyrling looked up and around at the other inhabitant in the
Dining Cavern. They were mostly all seated near in other, laughing,
conversing, eating, having a good time. S'avn knew that his attitude
was a large part of his loneliness. People didn't like being around
him, he understood that, he understood that he had little worth to
other people. His own parents had made that quite clear.

He wanted to change, he wanted friends, shells, a _girlfriend_ would
be nice, but... S'avn took a bite of the bubbly. He didn't know how to
change. How did you change the very fiber of your being? Maybe that
was just the way his life was going to be. Just him and Mayfeth. He
would have to learn how to deal with it, how to make the best out of
it.

}:You are not worthless. You are part of me. Am I worthless?:{ Mayfeth asked.

**Of course you are not worthless. You are a dragon.**

}:And you are a Dragonrider of Pern. What is the measurement for
worth?:{ Mayfeth asked with his dragonic wisdom, always turning
S'avn's problems into introspective questions.

S'avn sighed, he knew exactly what Mayfeth was trying to do... and it
was working a bit. A small smile tugged at his lips, **I know what you
are doing to do.**

}:I am not trying to do anything. I am succeeding.:{ Mayfeth responded
happily. }:Now finish that bubbly and come scratch my eyeridge. I
tried to persuade a youngling passing by to do it but I think I
frightened him.:{

**What makes you think you frightened him?** S'avn stuffed the rest of
the bubbly into his mouth, brushed his hands free of crumbs and walked
from the Dining Cavern.

}:He ran away screaming.:{ The dragon admitted.

S'avn tossed his head back and laughed, **Just one more thing to add
to our sterling reputation.**

}:Next time I will just call a firelizard to help me. They do a pretty
good job, even if they are a little annoying.:{ Mayfeth continued his
discourse onto the many traits about firelizards that he found
annoying while S'avn climbed the stairs to their weyr.

When he stepped into the weyrcouch, Mayfeth crooned a greeting and
reached out his dark blue wedged-shaped head. S'avn knew without
asking that Mayfeth was serious about getting that eyeridge scratched
so he extended his arm and began his duties as a dragonrider.

**Yes, happy birthingday to me.**
