N'vanik

N'vanik

He'd flown himself in and decided that first things were first. He'd
find quarters after reporting formally for duty. There was also the
matter of Werenn. His sister didn't want to uproot to Dolphin Cove so
E'rae had to decide whether or not to bring his daughter and give
her a new foster family or if he would leave her behind. With the
recent loss of his son, he was loathe to do so. Even so, here he was
putting himself as far away from home as he could for the first
time in his life. Leith landed and his rider dismounted. The
blueriderheaded to the Weyrleader's office and stood outside it after
knocking once. **I wonder if N'vanik is how they say he is. For sure
he won't be like old K'sedel.** Having flown in the Weyrleader's Wing
for many turns, E'rae had been used to the old bronzerider.

"Come in," N'vanik called, sliding the transfer request in front of
him. No real problems. From all indications a good, solid rider.

Entering in his usual way, E'rae was quiet as he walked up and then
stood straight before N'vanik. "E'rae of blue Leith, reporting
for duty, Weyrleader."

"Have a seat, E'rae. Do you mind telling me why you want to transfer?"

**Do you want the full truth? Of course not** The bluerider decided in a split
second and then nodded before sitting down. He was clearly not at ease, though.
"I recently lost my son. I'm afraid there are too many memories."

"I'm very sorry to hear that." N'vanik had an idea of how hard that could be.

Sorry didn't bring him back. E'rae knew that. Still, he waited for
the awkwardness to subside. Hopefully the Weyrleader wouldn't delve any
farther into that subject.

N'vanik was curious how old his son had been, how he'd died, but he
wasn't going to ask. "We're glad to have you. Our
current group of weyrlings is very small, as you might have heard. We won't
get the replacements the Wings need."

"I understand that." River Bluff had had that problem once when Vilarth had
flown so E'rae knew what it felt like during a Pass. That would concern the Weyrleader
certainly. "I'm ready to focus again on just flying and getting the job done."

"Good. I'm putting you in Cyclone, under D'hol. He can be demanding of
his riders, but I think with your experience you should fit in just
fine."

Having no idea who D'hol was, E'rae was hoping it would be just fine. It was
a letdown not being in Weyrleader's Wing any longer, but he would fill in where
he was needed with no complaint. "When should I report to him, Sir?" If the
answer was right away, he would forgo trying to find quarters and speaking
to the Headwoman.

"He'd probably like to meet you before the end of the day. Go ahead
and take some time to choose a weyr and drop off your things." Moving
was often stressful and he didn't like to rush new arrivals.

"Thank you." E'rae waited to see if N'vanik had anything else
before turning around to go. The bluerider would have to figure out which way
to head, but he was confident he'd manage. He'd been to Dolphin Cove a few
times over the turns.
