Meledei fiddled with the straps to her dragon as she waited for the last
of Qorri's things to be loaded. Elleth was small for a gold, but she
was still large enough to take care of that task. The rider had already
gone over the safety of the straps multiple times, but it was more to
distract her from the situation than it was the idea that she might have
missed something. Eventually, everything was secured to the former
headwoman's liking and it was time to mount up.

"Are you sure about this Qorri?" Melancholy touched every word that
spoke and there was an essence of misery in the young woman's expression.

"I am," Qorri answered with a bit of resoluteness in her tone. She was
resigned to her fate now. All she could do was focus on her future and
not think
about all she was leaving behind. "Shh...you know you can come whenever
you want
to. It's not like it'll be far for you. And listen, someone is going to
have to
watch those girls. Alina, Ciendra, Saidrene, the others....Meledei,
maybe you can help
them." She hated to add an extra responsibility on her young shoulders,
but she was
growing up. She was a young weyrwoman and Qorri had to treat her like one.

Meledei nodded, but she didn't feel particularly well equipped for
mentorship. Qorri had been that to her, a steadiness among the constant
shuffling of Weyrwomen. Now that consistency was jumping ship. She was
partially angry. She was mostly upset. "I wish you wouldn't go. At
least tell me _why_."

"I'm afraid I can't. What is said in the Council Room stays there unless
the Weyrleaders wish for everyone to know." Qorri was conflicted over the
whole thing but she knew Meledei would be upset so she didn't want her
to know how
upset she herself was over the whole thing. The young goldrider needed to
trust and look up to her leaders since she needed guidance-now more than
ever. "And you
know as well as I do that I don't have a choice or I wouldn't be going."

She didn't quite agree with that. There was always a choice, unless it
was the Weyrleaders who had sent her away. But why would Cyradis and
N'vanik do that? It didn't make any sense and Meledei wished she could
just /between/ time and change the past. "I'm going to miss you."

"I'm going to miss you too. But again, this isn't goodbye." She knew if
she cried, it was never going to work. Qorri smiled and climbed up on
Elleth. She
took her time and settled in. It would be an easy ride so that didn't
bother her. She
just hoped that things would go smoothly once she got there. "I do
appreciate the ride,
though. Not everyone gets to ride off into the sunset on a Queen." She
gave Elleth a
scratch to show her thanks.

"I know. It's just not going to be the same." Meledei couldn't refrain
from pouting though she knew she should be above such childish shows.
She patted her dragon, then heaved a sigh. "I guess we might as well get
going. As for the ride, of course I wouldn't want anyone else to take
you. Need help getting up?"

"I've got it. Just a bit slower than you." She managed and started to
put the straps together.

"All right." Why wouldn't she? Qorri knew how to work straps as well
as any rider. Meledei waited until the woman indicated she was ready,
then faced forward. The image was passed from rider to dragon and the
gold launched into the air.

A few breaths later, they emerged from /between/, the hold spread out
beneath them. Normally Meledei enjoyed visits to holds, but this was
one trip she wished she didn't have to make. Elleth descended into a
gentle landing. Only a few moments left and then she would be gone.
Sure, they could see each other, but it just wasn't going to be the
same. And how many times would she say that before she finally just
accepted it? Never?

Once they touched down, Qorri waited until Elleth settled. Getting down
wasn't as easy as getting up. With Meledei's help, she managed. Then,
she looked up at her things there in the harness and couldn't help but have
a moment. All those turns reduced to that. Sighing, she shook her head and
remained quiet for a moment.

"Is it okay if I hang around for a while? Help you get settled?"
Honestly, Meledei didn't really want to leave. She especially didn't
want to leave Qorri there. Nothing made sense and the Weyr just wasn't
going to be the same.

"Sure." She walked up to Meledei and pulled her close up to her side for
a hug. "It'll be okay my girl."
