Description: New blue on the block.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 6, day 9 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: D'hol
His first set of drills with his new wing was
over. And he had a lot
to do to get up to speed. River Bluff was a tropical
Weyr, but things
worked differently than Dolphin Cove. They fought over
everything from
mountains to ocean. This was very different. E'rae found
himself still
reeling from his personal problems and now he had
professional
problems. **Maybe this wasn't the best idea.** It wasn't like he
could
go home, though. Not now.
For once Leith didn't pipe in with
eternal optimism. The blue wasn't
feeling very confident either. He was out
of water in this new place
with new dragons. River Bluff had always been his
Weyr. He also sensed
the underlying emotions coming from his rider and they
were concerning
him.
"Hi," S'avn said as he fell in to step beside the
newest addition to
the Wing. Like most days after drills, S'avn's shirt was
basically
plastered to him with sweat, his hair swept back and in the
same
condition. D'hol never ceased to be less than a grueling task
master
when it came to wingdrills.
Looking over and up at the taller
rider, E'rae unconsciously sized him
up. He was younger, but he wasn't
terribly young. Still smarting from
everything, including the loss of his
best friend, he found himself
alone more often than not since coming here.
"Hello." Not the most
talkative person on a good day, E'rae didn't offer any
more, but he
didn't move to get away either. It was important to know
your
wingmates since you had to trust them with your life. So why not
start
now?
"Well? Are you ready to run back to wherever you came from
yet?" S'avn
asked, his tone sarcastic but his intention light-hearted. He had
been
the "newest" member of the Wing until E'rae's arrival so he
understood
better than anyone what E'rae could possibly be feeling as 'the
new guy'.
"That's not an option." It wasn't as if it was hard. E'rae had
been flying in
the Weyrleader's Wing for a decade and longer. There was just
a learning
curve. He was also dealing with his entire life turning upside
down but he
didn't mention that either.
"A few more days with D'hol
and you'll wish it was." S'avn sighed,
although he would admit that he had
gotten somewhat accustomed to how
D'hol acted. The young bluerider just
automatically assumed whenever
he was around his Wingleader that he should
expect insults, or a cold
stare, and most of that wasn't earned because of
his performance as a
wingrider but because of what had happened with Jeyme.
**That's the
last shardin' time I let some female into my weyr like
that.**
"So where did you come from?" he asked, leading the way into
the
bathing pools where several of the Wing had headed to clean
up.
"River Bluff, where I Impressed. Born in Garnet Valley Hold." E'rae
reached
the pools and automatically began to shuffle off his flightgear, hot
as it was.
It didn't take long for the bluerider to get down to tunic and
pants.
When he took the tunic off, the wicked score on his back stood
out.
S'avn idly noted the score on E'rae's back, but said nothing. He
had
found that some people didn't enjoy talking about their scars, and
he
had put his foot in his own mouth so many times that he was
finally
beginning to learn how to keep his lips zipped... well,
mostly.
"At least you came to a similarly warm place then." S'avn
commented as
he stripped out of his sweaty gear and lowered himself down into
the
nearest pool with a hiss.
"Yeah...no mountains though." He
shrugged as he pulled himself into the
water and closed his
eyes.
"But," S'avn countered, "the best looking beaches on all of
Pern."
"I beg to disagree. Ista has the best beaches." Of course E'rae
didn't go North
much but every now and again he did just to keep his between
recognition points
correct.
"We'll have to agree to disagree then."
S'avn said, closing his eyes
as he tilted his head back and relaxed in the
bathing pool. He wasn't
sure what his long-term feelings about E'rae would
be, but upon first
impressions, S'avn felt as if the other bluerider would
fit in just
fine.
