"Hey buddy," Eioval ducked up suddenly at the table Lokkun was working at. "Have you seen your lovely Master Reeva, or isn't she around at the moment?" He leaned the big canvas he was carrying around against the table.
"Gah!" Lokkun had been so absorbed in copying from his assigned hides, Eioval had been able to sneak up on him. How embarrassing. He quickly composed himself, however, and managed a polite smile. "I've been out here for quite a while, so I'm afraid I wouldn't know for sure, sir," he stated.
"Ah, that's too bad," Eioval chuckled slightly at the startled reaction, but decided not to tease the poor boy any further on it. Eioval's attention was drawn by the hides. "Whatcha doin'?"
"I'm copying some medical recipes," Lokkun said, showing Eioval one of the hides he was working on. "If I copy them correctly often enough, then eventually I'll be trusted to mix them with supervision." He nodded to the canvas. "Is that a present for Master Reeva?"
"It''s a painting our son did," Eioval smiled widely. "Want to see it?" He was already unwrapping it, fatherly pride glowing on his face.
To be polite, and because there wasn't much of an option, Lokkun nodded and waited for the canvas to be presented to him.
"Tadaa!" Eioval presented the canvas with the pride of a newborn's father. It was a large, bright blue sky filled with dragons of all colours. Indeed a crafty piece, especially for one Reevan's age.
Lokkun was impressed despite himself. "That is rather well done," he complimented, surveying the picture. It made him slightly wistful, all those dragons. It made him think of M'yan and Azeali, and now Gelira. He missed them.
"Gorgeous, isn't it?" Eioval grinned from ear to ear. Even so, he caught the wistful look on the boy's face. "What's up?"
"Hm?" Lokkun looked up at him. "Oh, uh, nothing. It just took me back. So are you going to get that a good frame and hang it up?" It wasn't a huge picture, but it wouldn't disappear on a stone wall.
"I'm thinking about it," Eioval nodded. "But it's getting a bit crowded in my quarters, to be honest." He grinned sheepishly at that confession.
"Well, maybe Master Reeva would like it in her office." If having something a child made in the office wouldn't damage her professional reputation, that is.
"That's a good idea," Eioval said with a brightening smile. "I'll suggest it at least!"
"The worst she can do is say no," Lokkun agreed with an amiable shrug. "If I see her, I'll let her know you're looking for her."
"Good," Eioval nodded. "Good luck with your work, I'll put in a good word for you with your boss lady."
Lokkun blushed. "Oh, well, thank you. I appreciate that," he said humbly. "Good luck in your future endeavors as well."
