"Sit down." N'vanik pointed at the chair and closed the door behind them.
Varija slumped to the chair and covered her face with her hands. She
just wanted to cry. She knew she had lost it. Lost all sense. She
wasn't worthy of being dragon rider, she was utter failure. No one
wanted her around, no one could love a screw up person like her...self
accusations were swirling in her mind like swarm of vtols.
"What in Faranth's name happened out there?" N'vanik crossed his arms
and leaned against the side of the desk.
"I don't know...I lost it, I suppose. Seeing Z'an with her...I was
jelous," Varija looked her hands, twisting them around and around.
"You were jealous so you hurled a plate at a fellow rider? Did he
insult you, say anything to make you upset?" He liked to be fair and
give people a chance to explain themselves.
"I...I don't know why I did it," Varija answered.
"You have a history of causing these kinds of problems. I think you've
managed to get kicked out of almost every Weyr on Pern. Do you want to
add another to the list?" Z'an certainly wasn't one of N'vanik's
favorite riders, but the brownrider was still _his_ and he wasn't
going to allow his riders to be assaulted.
"No, I don't want to," Varija was horrified. "I can't help it. I..just
lose all sense and control."
She didn't have much choice if she was forced to leave Dolphin Cove.
She needed help. The question was if she was willing to get it. "You
have two choices. One, you start seeing a mindhealer, or two, I have
to seriously consider transferring you somewhere else."
Varija stared him. Going to mindhealers would label her crazy in the
eyes of her wingmates. Of course, after morning's incident, they
probably already thought her crazy. It wasn't really a choice, not to
Varija. "Fine, I take the mindhealing," she said grudgingly.
"Good. I want you to go today, and go to every appointment they make
for you." He was glad she hadn't argued. "Our minds can break just
like bones, and they can be fixed like them, too. I want you to get
fixed, Varija." He used to sneer at mindhealers, but he'd seen the
good they'd done for Tal.
"Yes, sir," Varija said with resigned, subdued voice. Knowing N'vanik,
she knew he would _check_ that she really went to those appointments.
He relaxed a bit, uncrossing his arms. "Any idea why you have these
problems?"
Varija shrugged her shoulders, a gesture that made her rather
overlarge breasts heave up and down. This time she didn't do it
deliberatly though. "I just want someone to love me, is that so
wrong?" she said with small voice that sounded much more younger than
her 44 Turns...almost like child's.
}: I love you! :{ Attiath flooded their bond with the love she felt
for her rider.
N'vanik sighed. "It's not wrong, but you can't force it. Trying to
claim every guy you sleep with is a good way to make people avoid
you."
He actually might have a point, Varija had to admit, even if it was
only deep inside her.
"I want you to set up a meeting with the mindhealer, right now." He
didn't want her to put it off. "And when you've cooled your head, I
want you to apologize to Z'an and the girl."
"Yes, sir," Varija replied meekly.
