R'enh

Kapera liked to know the people she worked with, but there were of course
some people she put more of a priority to learn about. So when she saw a
bronzerider she hadn't met yet heading towards what she thought was a
bathing area, she waved at him. "Do you have a moment?"

R'enh altered his course and approached the dark haired lovely with a
smile. "Hello there," he said with an incline of his head. "I am sure
I have a moment for you."

"Thank you," she said with a smile. Wingsecond knots, muscled,
attractive. "I'm Kapera. I am going the right way for bathing, right?"

"You are," he smiled. "I'm R'enh, N'vanik's 'second. Very nice to meet
you Kapera." N'vanik had told him another goldrider was transferring
in from Windswept so the knots didn't surprise him. But he was
pleasantly surprised by her looks. He knew he had a personal
preference for dark hair and that she had in abundance.

"Through here," he said and pointed the direction changes out from
behind her shoulder.

"A pleasure to meet you, R'enh. Thank you." She ran them over in her
head again and then nodded. "This is a lovely Weyr. What's one of your
favorite things about it?"

"The weather is great most of the year. It can get very hot in the
summer but you can hide in the caves where the temperature stays quite
comfortable. Of course there is the water and the dolphins. Mnoranth
really enjoys swimming with the dolphins. They will go crazy for your
gold."

"She's going to love them in turn." It sounded quite pleasant, from
his description. Mostly, she was impressed that he actually had an
answer. It was a question where the answers spoke about a person, or
so she liked to think, anyway. "I guess that's why they called it
Dolphin Cove."

He chuckled and put a hand on the small of her back to steer her
toward the bathing room "This way," he said. And a moment later they
were there. He pulled a towel out of one of the cubbies and began to
undress. There were a couple of people on the far side of the room but
he knew them for a couple and nodded in their direction. "So do you
have any children?"

She began stripping down as well and shook her head. "None. Do you?"
She'd never quite understood the point. It interested here that two of
the other goldriders here had them.

"One," he smiled. "That I know of." He pulled a towel out of the cubby
and put his folded clothes inside before walking to the edge of the
water and slipping in.

She mimicked his motions and sighed when she hit the water. "These are
the best part of the weyr," she joked. Some of the aspects of Dolphin
Cove's technology level were unusual, but at least the bathing pools
were proper. "A son or a daughter?"

"He's all boy and twelve going on twenty. " He smiled.

She laughed. "Is he here? I'll have to meet him sometime."

"Yes," he smiled and leaned against the side of the pool. "He's trying
to decide if he wants to stand or if he wants to craft. I'm not sure
what's winning today. But I thought about taking him to see the eggs
on the sands. Maybe that will make up his mind."

"That seems like a good idea. I know when I saw the eggs, it was where
I was meant to be."

"Me too," he grinned. Then he looked at her directly. "How are you
settling in?"

"So far, so good. The weather's rather interesting. I must admit that
I knew there was no electricity, but it's easy to take something for
granted and then forget when you're poking around for glows," she said
with a laugh.

He threw his head back and laughed. "Yes," he said. His smile was wide
and charming. "I did the same thing until I started leaving one half
turned when I left for the day. The drudges know and don't turn it
back. You should try it," he reached out and touched her upper arm.
"At least until the Weyrwoman's project to electrify the weyr gets
moving."

"Oh, that's a good idea. I'll definitely have to use it," she said,
shifting over into the contact. "I did hear a rumor about that. Sounds
promising. I've always found technicians interesting."

"They are working on something they call infrastructure or something
like that." R'enh shook his head. His specialty was jewelry. To him
that just meant they were doing stuff to make it all work rather than
actually seeing some things light up.

"I'll have to look into that," she mused. "Did you ever Craft?"

"Oh yeah," he said turning toward her since she seemed to be accepting
of his advances. He hadn't failed to notice how well she was put
together. But he was the kind who would only approach if the woman was
willing. "I was raised and apprenticed in the Smith Hall before
Mnoranth found me. And if you play your cards right I might just make
you something special. Maybe I can find a pair of green stones to
match your eyes for earrings."

"Those sound lovely," she said wistfully. "The Smith Hall, hmm? I know
that Weyr crafters are well trained, but I've heard the best jewelry is
made there. Do you have any example pieces?" She shifted closer.

"I have a workbench in my weyr if you'd like to come up. I also have
some wine. We could get to know each other a little better if you
would like." One hand began to wander over her arm and down her side.

"I think I'd like that very much. Does jewelry making require being
patient and good with your hands?" She let one of hers drift over under
the water, searching for his thigh or hip.

He smiled and lifted his arm like he was going to put it around her
but instead picked up a handful of sweetsand. "Want a scrub," he asked
with a glint in his eye.

"Absolutely. And then I'll return the favor, get some of those hard to
reach spots and scratch those itches."

"Mmm," he said. "Sounds great!"
