He knocked on the door and entered when he heard the call.
He knew she was expecting him. The request to meet with one of the
Weyrlingmasters was received and promptly responded to. Since Sh'del
had been busy, D'naz had quickly made his way to Cyradis's weyr.
"Good morning Cyradis. We received your request for a meeting. Sh'del
had classes this morning so I've come to assist you however I can."
"Good Morning," she smiled. "I just wanted to talk to you about the
eggs." Panitath had been hesitant to let anyone near but they were
hard now and she didn't spend nearly as much time curled around them
as she had been and though Cyradis herself hadn't been able to stay
with her on the Sands as much as she normally did. Luckily Loseth was
very attentive as was Donneth when Loseth let him near.
D'naz smiled. "Of course," he answered them added gently, "May I
inquire first how you are faring?" He knew the bedrest wasn't easy on
the Weyrwoman and the kindhearted Weyrlingmaster Second wished he
could do more for her.
"Fairly well," she smiled. It was amazing how quickly she tired out
these days especially when she basically rested most of the day. "But
they want me to try and carry this one as long as possible." She
shifted in her seat. "Which is more tiring by the day."
"But enough about me," she smiled. "Panitath is ready to accept a
candidate visit if you want to take them in."
"Glad to hear things are going fairly well." He knew how hard it had
to be on her. Just to look at how much she had changed over her
pregnancy. D'naz couldn't imagine what it must feel like to have
something inside your belly. Shaking off that thought, he focused
instead on the reason for his visit.
"Wonderful. I know the candidates will be excited to hear that.
They've been hoping for some time now that they would get their
chance. No matter how many times we reassure them, I think the
question comes up at _least_ twice a day." He shook his head as he
said it even though he was also smiling.
She smiled. "It just takes her awhile to become comfortable with other
people around them. Thankfully she hasn't been as demanding of my time
for this clutch." She shook her head. "Perhaps it's because she
somehow knows I can't be there right now." She was musing to herself
and knew it so she moved on. "Well, just make sure they observe the
formalities with their bows and curtseys and they don't run around the
eggs."
"I assure you they have already had the formalities drilled into their
heads, but we will make sure they follow them. We are grateful
Panitath will allow them in without you there. I personally assure you
that I will keep a close eye on each and every one of them since I
know you can't at this time." He gave her a firm nod of his head to
show her how serious he was.
"Now in terms of when. Would you say the next sevenday or so would be
good to start?" That would give them time to make up a few schedules
and go from there. "I can divide them into two or three groups and
space them out over a few days with breaks in between."
"Good thought," she smiled. "Let me know when they're coming and I'll
monitor Panitath so you are aware of her mood."
"That would be a big help. Thank you." D'naz replied. Unless there was
something further she wished to discuss he couldn't think of a reason
to keep her. He knew she needed her rest as well.
