"_I.don't.want.to.die!!!_"

The anguished scream echoed in her ears as Desirae rushed from her room, sprinting down the corridor towards the cries and pleas for help. She was half-aware that she wasn't alone - there were more than just one pair of feet pounding on hard stone to get to him.

And when she skidded around the corner, her bare feet slipping on something dark and slick, what she saw made her heart feel as though it was being squeezed from her chest.

Oh _damn_!

"Renner!"

"Des?" he asked, feeling as if all the strength had left him, either from the numb feeling of his heart or from the loss of blood, or both. "Shards Des... What have I done?"

Snapping herself out of her shock, ran to his side. There was so much blood... "I need first aid! _Now_!" There had to be _someone_ in a room nearby who had a kit!

"I think I have one. But there aren't enough bandages for all that,"
one of the girls said helpfully. "Wetalia, do you have one?"

The young woman next to her just stared at Renner with wide eyes until finally whispering, "There is so much _blood_..."

"Wetalia! I _need_ you to focus on me. _Look_ at _me_, Wetalia!" Desirae held the young woman's eyes. "Go get the sheet from your bed and come back as quickly as you can." They _would not_ panic. There was so much blood... "Do it _now_." Desirae's voice took on an edge. "And I need a knife. You -" she pointed to the girl who had spoke before - "hurry and get one." She _would not_ think past what they had to do now. She would not get emotional.

There was so much blood...

She _would not_.

Des could see the girl understood what they had to do. Shredding a sheet would provide wraps - but he needed to get to the Infirmary. She slid her hands beneath his arms and lifted them. The blood ran bright.

"I don't want to die, Des. I don't. I don't," Renner mummbled, ignoring all that was going on around him. "Oh shards, what have I done?"

Wetalia and her friend returned with the strips. "Is he going to die?"
she whispered, clutching the strips to her and staring wide eyed at whole scene.

"I'll go wake the healer, Des," another girl called over her shoulder as she ran of in the direction of the infirmary.

"No. He's _not_ going to die," Desirae growled. He would not! Then, catching sight of how sharding scared the girl was, Des said in a gentler tone, "It's going to be all right, Wetalia." She glanced over at the group hovering behind her. "Someone needs to hold his arms!" She needed to tie the strips...and she needed to do it fast.

Hearing Renner mumbling, she murmured, "You're going to be fine, Renner, you hear me? Stay strong. Stay awake..."

Renner shook his head slowly, his eyes glazing over. "But I am going to die. I know it. I already feel so cold..."

The girl taking his arms looked up worriedly. "Des, he's going into shock. Wetalia, get a blanket. We need a blanket to keep him warm!"

Soon they had him wrapped up tightly in one. She could feel him shaking. Des tried to shove everything out of her mind as she tied the strips tightly around his arms, her fingers working swiftly to stop the flow of blood. She glanced up - and saw that his eyes were closed. "Renner? Renner, talk to me. Talk to me, Renner! Damn it! Renner!" Her head snapped around, her expression growing frantic. He _couldn't_...

"Where's the sharding healer?!"

"Stay with me, Des?" Renner whispered, his eyes still closed. "I don't want to be alone."

"Sssh, Renner. You're not alone... You're not alone..." She tried to keep her voice soothing, but she couldn't help the fear that was filtering in. Where was the healer? He needed a healer! "You're not alone. I'm not going to leave you..."
