Physical Description of Persona:
Though not tall at 5'7", what he lacks in height Renner makes up in muscle. His tanned shoulders are broad and strong from his turns of swimming in the ocean. He usually kept his dark brown hair cut short to prevent drag in the water, but recently has allowed it to grow longer. His hazel eyes have been known to flash with merriment, but recently the light has faded from them
Emotional Description of Persona:
Though before he was known to be a joker, recently he has long periods in which he is moody and serious. Known for his confidence and bravery, it has been quite a shock to those who knew him to see how he has changed. Since a tragic accident that claimed the life of his good friend, he now seems to have no faith in his abilities, and his bravery has turned more into recklessness. Some fear for his safety, not to mention his sanity.
History of Persona:
Renner was born and raised in a small fishing hold. He loved to hear the stories the fisherman and seacrafters told of daring rescues at sea by the dolphins and their partners, the dolphineers. Since he was young he dreamed of being one of the great heroes the old men told stories about. As soon as he was old enough, he was apprenticed at the Dolphin Hall.
The young apprentice threw himself into training. He swam hours everyday, often waking up a couple candlemarks before the others just to get in a morning swim and more than a few times he was caught out past curfew swimming laps. Even in the classroom while he took meticulous notes on anything rescue related he would be doing breathing exercises. The young man quickly rose through the ranks, making Senior Journeyman by the time he was 21 turns old.
At the age of 22 he found a partner in Fin, a 5 turn old dolphin in the pod. They were practically inseperable. Though Renner had plenty of two legged friends, none were as special to him as Fin. There was nothing either of them enjoyed more than swimming together and talking of great adventures.
After the great storm at Topaz Sea Hold, the two volunteered to help recover bodies from ships that had been sunk with hands still aboard. It was a gruesome task, but one that everyone felt was necessary for the peace of mind for the families left behind. While searching one of the sunken wrecks, however, the unthinkable happened. While Renner and another diver were in the bowels of a sunken ship, Fin became entangled in the fallen lines of the rigging. Thrashing about in panic, the dolphin not only entangled himself further, but also expended much of his precious air.
Hearing his friends frantic cries, Renner swam to his friend as fast as he could. He tried to cut the thick cords as fast as he could but the air in his own much smaller longs soon was spent. Though the other diver returned to the diving bell to replenish his oxygen before trying to cut Fin free, Renner refused to leave his friends side. He eventually blacked out and would have drowned had another dolphin not conveyed him to the surface.
Fin could not be cut free in time. Renner could not forgive himself for failing his friend. Grieving for Fin mixed with regret and a sense of responsibility lead to depression and self-loathing. Though he soon returned to the sea, it was apparent that the dolphineer was different. He seemed to not care if he lived or died. It was decided that, for his own safety, he would be returned to the Dolphin Hall in the hopes that he could get the help he needed there.
Unfortunately, not even the Dolphin Hall could save him from himself. After a suicide attempt, he was sent to a special Mindhealer Hall. After spending several months there, he has been pronounced fit to rejoin society. But will the Hall welcome him back after the trouble he caused? Only time will tell if he is really well, or if he will eventually need to make another trip to the Mindhealer Hall.
