"Master Mosler!" a young voice called, as a pounding stirring Mosler out of an uncomfortable sleep at his desk. He reached his door just as the voice, was about to pound on the door again. "What's the matter?" Mosler asked slightly alarmed of the boy with apprentice healer knots. An apprentice wouldn't wake a master in the middle of the night unless it was an emergency. "It's Journeyman Renner," he cried excitedly, "he was hurt and there was alot of blood, and he was taken to the infirmary! I was told to fetch you right away." "All right, I'm coming." Mosler hurried to locate his boots, and after slipping them on followed the eager apprentice down the hall.

"Do you know what happened?" Mosler asked the healer once things had settled down enough for him to talk with him. There had been a fair number of people out in the hall and waiting room when he had arrived, but he had followed the apprentice into one of the inner rooms where a healer had told him that Renner was alive and they would know more in a few minutes. "It was an apparent suicide attempt," the master said with a sad shake of his head. "Luckily he came to his senses before it was too late.
But he has lost a lot of blood."
"So he'll live?" Mosler asked uncertainly. **Suicide? What was the man thinking? He was supposed to be getting better!**
The healer nodded. "Yes, he'll live. He'll be weak for a few days and I want to keep him under 24 hour watch."
Mosler nodded, "Of course, if you need any volunteers for the watch let me know." He was quiet a moment lost in thought, "Shards, how could this of happened?"
"Well, from what I understand he has been seeing a mindhealer from some kind of trauma. I would guess that they are related."
That hadn't really been what he had meant, but he nodded in agreement at the conclusion. "Can I see him?" "Of course. He's asleep now, though. Rest is what he needs most right now. With your permission, I would like to send for a mindhealer to come and talk to him in the morning."
"Anything you need," Mosler assured him as the healer led him to Renner's room, "Anything that Renner needs."
"Thank you. I'll write a note right away." As they reached the room, the healer lowered his voice so as not to disturb the sleeper. "Jouneyman Doraiber will stay in the room, just as a precaution. I hope you don't mind."
"No, of course. I'll only stay a minute anyways, just to check on him to assure everyone waiting outside that he is going to be okay." he replied, his voice equally low. The healer nodded. "I'll leave you then."
Mosler gave Doraiber a brief nod of acknolagement before sitting down in the chair next to Renner's bed. He had been spending too much time lately in the infirmary he realized as he looked over the sleeping man.
First with Seori and her stroke, and now poor Renner. Could he have prevented this somehow? Had he pushed the man too hard? Given him too many classes, too many responsibilities? He didn't know, but somehow he felt that if Seori had been the Hallmaster still, Renner wouldn't be in this bed. Mosler stood up, gave another brief nod to the watching journeyman, and walked towards the sounds of the crowd waiting outside.
