"Is he asleep yet?" K'deren said softly.

"Yes," she said equally as softly. He'd latched on perfectly and
nursed himself into a stupor so she separated him and handed him to
his father with a soft smile. "He's a fine little guy," she said. She
tucked herself back into her gown and changed her position a little.
"I've had quick labor before but that was very fast." she grinned.

"Someone clearly wanted to make an early appearance," K'deren said as he
settled back comfortably in a chair with his son, who was wrapped in a tiny,
soft blanket that his weaver sister had made. "Not that I'm complaining,
he's here, and he's safe."

"Yes," she agreed softly. She was exhausted from the effort but they'd
done it. "We kept him inside long enough," she patted K'deren's knee.
"There was no indication of any breathing issues or distress after his
birth. So," she smiled "have you though about names yet?" They really
hadn't discussed it. She didn't know if it was because of the pain
they might feel if she'd lost him but that didn't matter now. He was
here and he was safe.

"Hmm," he said after a moment to look at the sleeping babe. "How about
Cyden? that might work"

"It might," she looked down at the babe. "Or maybe Dendis?" She shook
her head with a tiny frown neither of those names really seemed to fit
him.

"He doesn't look like a Dendis to me, it doesn't sound quite right."
K'deren said as he gently rocked his son, hoping he'd sleep a little
while longer before the inevitable round of nappy changing started.
"Deran?" he suggested.

"Hmmm," she mused. "I do like that a little better. Kedran, Kendran,
Cyden, Cyder, Kenden. Lots of possibilities," she smiled.

"Cyder? Sounds too much like a drink, can you imagine what the other
children in harper classes would do?" The baby gave a little whimper,
and stretched in his wrappings. K'deren gently lifted him, and hooked
a finger down those wrappings, "See, he's wet just at the mention of
it!"

She chuckled and pointed at a chest along the wall. "Bring me a clean
one and I'll change him," she said.

He rose to his feet, handing his son to his mother. "Is he Kendran?"

"I think he is," she smiled peering into the small face with the
rosebud pursed lips. She smoothed the dark hair so like his fathers
and hoped he'd keep the light eyes she so loved in her Weyrmate. The
silky hair curled around her fingers and she grinned up at K'deren.
"He's got your hair."

"And your nose, thank Faranth." K'deren came back, armed with the
necessary supplies. "Clean nappy, cloth to wipe him with, and a nappy
pin to fasten it."

With the ease of long practice she changed the nappy and tossed the
cloth and soiled one into the laundry container. Then replacing the
oiled leather cover to prevent spills, she wrapped him in the soft
blanket. Of course all the activity woke him up so she put him back to
nurse himself to sleep.

She smoothed her fingers across his little head. "Hello Kendran," she
smiled.

"It'll be time for him to meet the rest soon."

"Yes, well we should let them have fun at the Hatching feast and we
can have one quiet night with our new little boy." She took a deep
breath her last few months of basically doing nothing and sudden hard
labor forgotten with the child alive and well in her arms. She knew
she would spend a lot of time holding him, at least for as long as she
could for the time would fly by too fast. "Want to hold him again?"

"Now he's all clean and happy, it'll give me chance to work out if he
really does have your nose," K'deren teased.

She chuckled and handed him his son again. "He could not do any better
than to look like you love," she smiled up at the very handsome
brownrider. "You got your looks from your father, I'm sure. He should
do the same and steal the ladies hearts."

"I see you've already stolen your mother's affections," K'deren told the
babe. "Leave a little room in there for your poor old father, okay?"

The little guy yawned and blinked with a small baby groan then pursed
his lips and went back to sleep.

Cyradis smiled at K'deren and laid her head down on the pillow. "Think
I can sleep for a few minutes? Vandor should be up to check on us
soon."

"You try love, Kendran and I need some male bonding time I think."

She giggled but didn't open her eyes. "Just don't teach him dragon poker yet."
