The Main Crafthall Locations

While crafts are practiced throughout all the Holds and Weyrs, the following are the locations for the Main Crafthalls for each craft.

Female Crafters are allowed at all Weyrs. The Weyr crafters are not usually affiliated with any Hall (aside from males who do occasionally get assigned), and often see fit to train girls and women who run away to the Weyr from wherever they'd lived hold-wise.

Fostering at a Hall differs according to craft attitude. In those where female crafters are allowed, those achieving higher ranks such as Masters or Journeywomen with additional responsibilities beyond normal craft duties would foster their children. For the most part, children would be raised by their mothers as part of her daily life, and the children would live with their parents. However, even in those Halls that do not accept female crafters, the women of the Hall would assist in duties as non-crafters. Each Hall would have some provision for daily care while a parent was on duty, either by providing a harper to teach the children or a worker whose main job was to look after them. The Halls that allow female crafters provide full-time foster parents as part of the staff living there. Hall fostering issues apply to crafters at Weyrs and Holds as well, though they have different fostering options.

Craftbred children are highly likely to apprentice or to start doing craft-related duties, particularly in their parent's craft. The most common age for apprenticeship is twelve or thirteen, though in very rare cases children apprentice as early as eleven. For the most part, by age twelve or so, a child has received all the education they are going to be given without an apprenticeship, and needs to find work, a craft, or a mate.

So-called "Pillowcrafters" (aka prostitutes) are not allowed. They are a creation of fandom and not considered canon. There is no guild, union, or craft that engages in sex for marks or barter in Triad.
