How to Generate Weather

Climate Settings

Each of the locations at Triad Weyrs has it's own climate model unless it is directly located at another location. (i.e. Harper Hall is located at Amber Hills and would therefore use the Amber Hills Climate Model.)

Each climate model has seasons and each screen should be added into the database individually.

The Climate Settings page (reached by clicking the "Climate" tab on the Calendar page) can be used to set up climates which are then used to generate weather.

Name and Season Each climate needs to be given a name, and up to four climates can be generated with the same name: one for each season (spring, summer, autumn and winter).

Temperatures The maximum and minimum temperatures are used to generate daily temperatures using a normal distribution. This means that there is a very small (~0.3%) chance that a day's temperature will lie just outside the temperature range when weather is generated.

Weather Types There are nine different weather types defined: sunny, cloudy, overcast, showers, rain, storm, hurricane, snow and blizzard. Each of these must be assigned a number between 0 and 100, which represents the % chance of that kind of weather occurring. The total of these numbers must be 100.

For example, if the numbers are 50% sunny and 50% cloudy, when weather is generated approximately half of the days will be sunny and half cloudy.

Generating Weather

A daily weather report, including temperature and a description (sunny, cloudy, etc.) can be generated for each location. Weather will then appear on the calendar for that location.

Inheritance If no weather is entered for a sub-location, it will inherit the weather of any higher-level location above it. So, for example, it's not necessary to enter the same weather for both the Vintner Hall and Amethyst Cliff Hold, since they're both at the same location.

Generating Weather To generate weather, go to the calendar for which you'd like to generate weather and click on the "Generate Weather" tab. You can then fill in a temperature and choose a weather setting for each day of the month, or automatically generate weather based on a climate model. If weather already exists for that month, it will appear in the form. Once you're happy with the weather, click "Add to Database".
