Physical Description of Persona:
Thin, clumsy and gawky, with a mop of untidy dark hair, Gawyan looks his young age and often has trouble getting people to believe that he's a guard - much to his dismay. Training is starting to give him some wiry muscle, but he's still not near as strong as most of the regular guards.

His dark skin still bears an adolescent blemish or two where he would prefer to have more manly scars. His brown eyes are large and innocent, and though he doesn't realise it they are probably more attractive than any of his guard-like affectations.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Gawyan has wanted to be one of the Lord Holder's guards ever since seeing a troop of them riding past on a patrol when he was four years old. Now that he's achieved his ambition and been accepted, he is quickly discovering that his training is hard work and that the guard's life is not as romantic as he believed. Despite this, he is determined to succeed and compensates for his soft heart by wilfully ignoring the less honourable of the guard's duties, such as dealing with Holdless and runaways, and as a trainee he's not had much experience of these as yet.

His fellow guards tend to view him with either pity (for he often gets the worst jobs) or amusement. One or two find him an annoyance and mock his obedience and youthful enthusiasm. However, although he seems an unlikely candidate for the life he has chosen, he takes even the worst setbacks in his stride and always maintains a slightly nervous but eager and cheerful outlook on life.

History of Persona:
Gawyan is the oldest son of a cotholder in the northern part of Emerald Falls territory. His was a difficult birth, and after he was born the midwife told his mother that she would be unlikely ever to have any more children. His parents were disappointed, but realised that they were lucky to have one son to dote on.

For most of his childhood his ambition to join the guards was nothing but an idle dream, since he knew that with no brothers to take his place, one day he would have to marry and take over his father's holding. That all changed when his mother unexpectedly became pregnant again when he was seven. Desperate not to be seen as barren and useless, she decided to keep the baby and died giving birth to Gawyan's sister Lenisa.

His father married again, to a younger woman whose first child was a son. This boy proved to be less dreamy and more attached to the farmhold than his older half-brother, and when Gawyan turned sixteen and discovered that Lord Enrizial was recruiting new guards, it didn't take him long to persuade his father and stepmother to allow him to apply. To his delight, he was accepted and left the cothold to begin his new life at Emerald Falls Hold.

A pretty little light green that reminds Gawyan of springtime at his home farm, the flit was received as a gift from the Lord Holder for Gawyan's service in restoring Enrizial to power.
