Persona Profile: J'cello

Writer: Sia

Name: J'cello
Age: 23
Birthday: m2 d17
Birthplace: River Bluff Weyr
Rank: Wingrider, Skybroom Wing
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Craft: Technician
Craft Rank: Senior Apprentice

Physical Description of Persona:
J'cello stands at 5'10'' with a slender yet athletic build, a testament to his active lifestyle and rigorous training as a technician. His hazel eyes are framed by a scattering of freckles, and his dark hair and beard are kept short and well groomed. A slight scar on his left cheek, a remnant from a childhood accident, adds a hint of ruggedness to his otherwise approachable demeanor. His complexion is lightly tanned, darker now than his time at Dragonsfall Weyr, but still lighter than when he lived in the tropics of River Bluff Weyr. Despite his lean frame, J'cello possesses a surprising amount of strength, his muscles honed by physical activity. He's quick and agile, and carries himself with an easy confidence, his posture relaxed yet alert, ready to spring into action at a moment's notice. His hands are strong and calloused, yet they move with a surprising gentleness when working on tasks that require precision. His voice is warm and steady, though often low and quiet.

Emotional Description of Persona:
There's a quiet confidence about J'cello. He's a man that's at home in his own skin; he knows his own strengths and weaknesses and would much rather use them to his advantage than worry about his insecurities. His body language is relaxed, yet alert, and his mind is much the same. There's always a thought behind those eyes, though it may not be at the thought most needed. He's always looking for new things to do and new ways to do them, and he's willing to take a bit of risks to get results.

He's a quiet extrovert. He's at his happiest when he's around people, drinking and playing cards, flirting, dancing. Everything he does is done with enthusiasm for a job well done or just for the joy of doing it with someone. He knows that there’s a time for rowdiness and a time for calmness and he’s a natural at reacting to either situation. He is, surprisingly, a bit of a gossip hound, and has an insatiable curiosity about the people around him, and unfortunately he's learned enough about body language and tone of voice to read people rather well. He files it away in the back of his mind until he needs it. There's nothing quite like the feeling of a story falling into place, or a piece of innocuous gossip that reappears as an important detail later.

History of Persona:
J'cello was born and raised around the old River Bluff Weyr. His parents weren't dragonriders themselves; they were too old by the time the clutches started booming. He was the youngest of a brood of siblings, a few of them dragonriders, but many of them continuing on as Lower Caverns and support staff. He was the baby of a close-knit family and when the earthquake made River Bluff uninhabitable, he accepted a transfer with the rest of his family to Dragonsfall Weyr. The weather was a shock to the system, but he got used to it quickly enough. He helped out with the technicians there, assisting with maintenance on the aging power grid and infrastructure. He had a knack for it, and was good at asking questions and taking pieces apart.

He'd always been the dependable, sweet boy, up until he had a whirlwind romance with another technician and found himself transferring away from his family and out to the brand new Barrier Lake Weyrhold. That relationship only lasted about six months after the transfer. It ended amicably, and the technician wasn't a bad guy, but J'cello's pride kept him from transferring back home. He liked working at the Weyrhold, anyway, and watching the Weyrhold spring up from the ground-up became a point of pride. He kept Standing for hatchings, too, though they were fewer compared to Dragonsfall.

He finally Impressed at the end of turn 11, right before he aged out, to the most perfect little green Bairelth.

Dragon's Name: Bairelth
Dragon's Age: 1
Dragon's Hatching Date: m13 d1
Dragon's Colour: Green
Next Mating Flight: m4 d24 of turn 13
Description of Dragon:
Bairelth is a handsome green. Her hide comes in a deep forest green, with dapples of darker patches along her flanks and wingsails. She is smaller even than most greens, with a lithe and dainty figure. She's all angles, from the prominent eyeridges to the fork of her tail. No piece of her is in excess; her limbs are just as long as they should be, thank you very much. Her small frame makes her extra agile in the air, and she takes pride in being able to fly circles around the bigger dragons. And she flies fast- whether exploring or in mating flights, she’ll fly long and hard until she is ready to drop out of the sky.

A naturally quiet dragon, Bairelth isn't all that shy. She's an introvert at heart, and doesn't like being in the center of attention or in the midst of a large crowd. She prefers it to be just her and her rider, and doesn’t seek out much company otherwise. When she makes friends, she keeps them for life, though they must be used to her sporadic company. She has a need to explore and revels in the world around her, and would much prefer to spend as much time as possible out and away from the Weyrhold. It will be her rider's strict sense of duty that keeps her attentive during lessons and during drills, because she hates them. She would volunteer for extra sweep duties herself if she could, and though she may make a good Search dragon, she hates being put on the spot like that.
