Persona Profile: M'sar

Writer: Devin

Name: M'sar
Pronunciation: Meh-SAR
Age: 19
Birthday: m1 d13
Rank: Junior Weyrling
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr

Physical Description of Persona:
Months of regular meals have made him fill out, though he remains wiry and his muscles are lean rather than bulky. His dark hair is uneven, chopped short to keep it out of his face. He usually favors clothes that are a little large, but he's been trying out a few things that fit more properly. He’s very skilled with knives and even as a weyrling, he hides at least one extra blade on his person whenever possible. He likes to name them.

He has a number scars, mostly on his arms and hands, ranging from tiny marks to thick, jagged lines. Many of these are from his early years practicing with blades.

Emotional Description of Persona:
M'sar is as sharp as the knives he’s so fond of. He’s wary, quick to anger, and refuses to be anything but himself. Anyone who insults him for his sexuality will find a blade aimed at their throat - or other vital parts.

He flirts, he seduces, and he takes any fleeting pleasure he can get. There are no guarantees about tomorrow or even the next candlemark, and he’s learned to live moment by moment.

He used to lie frequently, usually to make himself sound tougher than he was. When his father caught him sleeping with a boy, Mesarian killed him (lie). He fought a wild feline and won (lie). His various scars came from fights with men three times his size, or whole gangs of bandits (mostly lies).

His time at the Weyr has started to soften him, though even with the love of a dragon, it's hard to let go of the toughness he built up to help him survive.

History of Persona:
He got into a bit of trouble as a child, often questioning or bending rules, occasionally breaking them, but nothing too serious. Mesarian always felt different and he eventually realized he was attracted to boys. He kept those feelings locked up tight until he was twelve, when a much older boy coaxed him into a relationship. Their trysts lasted a few months until Mesarian’s father caught them kissing. Mesarian’s father tried to put all the blame on the older boy and encouraged Mesarian to say he’d been corrupted, or forced, but Mesarian refused. They were both cast out of the hold in shame, but the older boy begged forgiveness and agreed to be married as soon as possible.

Mesarian found himself alone in the world, betrayed and abandoned by the only person he’d shown his secret heart to. So he made himself hard. Hard enough to survive holdless. Hard enough to be open about his sexuality and turn it from a shame into a point of pride.

When his temporary refuge in a cave system with other holdless became flooded, he didn’t expect dragonriders to save him. He was even more surprised when a green dragon took a keen interest in him and declared he would make a good Candidate.

Convinced that he would Impress a green, M'sar was shocked when a brown chose him at his first Hatching.

Dragon's Name: Nazoth
Dragon's Age: 0
Dragon's Hatching Date: m12 d14
Dragon's Colour: Brown
Description of Dragon:
A very large brown, he easily outsizes smaller bronzes. Nazoth inherited his dam’s size, but not her looks, and is a rather handsome dragon. He’s also . . . round. M'sar feeds him as much as he wants, which results in a rather hefty weyrling. His hide is a warm golden brown.

For Nazoth, respect must be earned. He’s content to play second-in-command to a bronze or even a fellow brown if he finds them worthy, but in the absence of leadership he considers good enough, he thinks he should be in charge. With only one bronze in the clutch, Nazoth will assume that he â€" and by extension, M’sar â€" should be leaders in their class.

A confident dragon, he thinks he can do things before he’s ready to and will push boundaries.
