Crayon Awards: Favorite New Male Persona (December 2025)
Physical Description of Persona:
He's tall and lean, lanky even. Tathalin has plenty of muscle from having to learn a little bit of everything, and half of it physical labor. He'll always be wiry rather than bulky, however, not obviously muscular at first glance.
He has fair skin and short black hair, cut roughly himself, and wide dark brown eyes that seem to take everything in at a glance.
Emotional Description of Persona:
He’s the sort of person who hesitates at the edge of a room before stepping in. Someone who notices everything but rarely chooses to draw attention to himself. Words don’t come easily to him, especially when eyes are on him, and sometimes his tongue feels like it trips over every sentence he wants to say. Crowds drain him, compliments fluster him, and silence (awkward or not) feels like something he has to apologize for.
Being Holdless certainly doesn't help. He's well aware of how they're viewed. How he's viewed.
But beneath the shyness lies genuine warmth and curiosity. Tathalin _wants_ to connect, to speak more freely, to stop overanalyzing every breath and word.
Not _every_ dragonrider is so openly cold, and all his life he's wanted to belong _somewhere_. Why not here-- where he could someday fly with the best?
He’s learning to be brave in small ways. Raising his hand in classes, introducing himself first, saying what he really thinks even when his voice shakes. He’s the kind of person who celebrates tiny victories in private: a successful conversation, a smile returned, a moment of confidence that actually lasted. Each one matters to him.
And though he still retreats into his shell if pressed, he’s moving forward. One steady, awkward, hopeful step at a time. His friends help with that, when he makes friends.
History of Persona:
Tathalin was born Holdless, to Holdless parents. He traveled with them as he grew up, roaming Pern with their small band. Tathalin was rescued from the floods by the Dragonsfall riders, and wound up choosing to remain, stay at Dragonsfall Weyr once he was officially Searched.
Tathalin _wants_ to belong/be a dragonrider. He's working on building confidence. It's a process. Until then, he's chosen to apprentice as a Harper on top of Candidate classes.
After panicking and Not Standing at Galgaith’s DFW clutch, Tathalin Transferred to BLW to gather his courage and try again-- and bronze Roxarith came his way!
Dragon's Name: Roxarith
Dragon's Age: 0
Dragon's Hatching Date: m13 d20
Dragon's Colour: Bronze
Description of Dragon:
Roxarith is a pale, smoky bronze, unusually light for his colour. Many bronzes gleam like polished metal, and Roxarith is no different in that aspect. His hide looks like brass infused with gold, like a work of art. His build is refined rather than hulking; he is tall, with a narrow muzzle and angular cheekbones that give him a naturally serious expression. He will be all elegant angles when he reaches maturity and prone to an awkward gangly phase as he grows.
Roxarith is a bronze of quiet intensity. There is a sharpness to his mind as much as there is to his body. His mind is always moving-- never truly resting, always calculating the angles others overlook. He will be exceptionally good at flight patterns and wing drills (more than the typical dragon, anyway), and keen to learn. He remains calm and methodical, even when the world tilts, and will remain a steady rock for his rider and wingmates in even the worst circumstances. His humor, when it appears, is dry and precise, and deadpan enough that T'thalin may struggle with recognizing it at first.
Amongst all this, he carries a deep, almost fierce belief in T'thalin. To him, the boy's shyness is not a flaw but potential just waiting to unfold. He'll push T'thalin gently, never (intentionally) overwhelming him, but expecting growth nevertheless. He refuses to let himself or his rider settle for mediocrity. Roxarith intends to guide him gently, but will push him if necessary.
