43
Birthday: m8 d11
Rank: Wingrider, Alpine Wing
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Physical Description of Persona:
Th’alin has soft blonde hair, kept shorter and feathered back from his face. His quiet nature can be seen in his appearance by the softness of his blue eyes and the quiet, reserved smile that he keeps on tap. He is of medium height at 5’11” and in reasonably good shape thanks to dragonriding.
Emotional Description of Persona:
Th’alin is not a loud man and many people take his reserved natured to mean he lacks passion, but it is quite the opposite. There are many things that Th’alin feels strongly about, he just doesn’t wear his feelings on his sleeve. He prefers quiet to think and does his best thinking while cooking.
History of Persona:
Th’alin was born and raised at Dragonsfall Weyr. He is the only dragonrider in his family. His parents, Thevanier and Lorithia, are both drudges at the Weyr and so were their parents before them. Growing up as Thavalin, the son of a kitchen drudge, wasn’t as bad as it might sound to others. Thevanier and Lorithia had a home made with love, and their children never lacked for their parents’ attention.
He followed after his mother and worked in the kitchens. Cleaning, stoking fires, ferrying things back and forth were his specialties as a young lad. As he aged, Thavalin was allowed to begin assisting in meal preparation by chopping vegetables.
After harper lessons were over when he was twelve, other children either began Standing at Hatchings or taking up a craft, but Thavalin was content to continue working with his mother in Dragonsfall kitchen - despite the hazing he received from other children over this choice.
It wasn’t until his twentieth Turn, with a larger than usual clutch on the Sands, that Thavalin was approached with the suggestion of Standing. Apparently, leadership wanted as many of the Weyrborn children on the Sands as possible. Some claimed it was because Thread would return within their lifetime and his service would be needed to protect Pern, and others, the same children who had teased him for being a kitchen drudge, said it was because dragonriders were become nothing more than free labor for Pern and someone “like him” would be good for that role.
Standing was something that Thavalin discussed with his family and it was a decision his parents were proud to support. The _first_ in their family to ever become a Candidate.
Thavalin found a few friends in the Candidate group, along with a few bullies who wouldn’t let it go that he’d come from the kitchens, but none of that mattered when he impressed his brown Keth.
Some of Tha’lin’s clutchmates would go on to become the friends and ‘family’ that he would keep for the rest of his life. He became particularly close to K’thyr, so much so, that he’s known as “Uncle Th’alin” to K’thyr’s children and vice versa.
Th’alin tried to be welcoming of the River Bluff riders who ended up at Dragonsfall after the ruin of their Weyr, after all, he remembered what it had felt like to be an outsider as a drudge, but even the patient, quiet brownrider became frustrated by the many River Bluff riders who were promoted over the Dragonsfall natives during I’serin’s tenure as Weyrleader.
Th’alin has two children from a decades long weyrmate, Yremia, a lovely woman from the Dragonsfall kitchens. Despite wanting the same type of home that his parents had provided for him, in the last Turn, Yremia conclude that Th’alin was too reserved, too closed off, and not passionate enough. Interestingly, Th’alin didn’t find himself that heartbroken over the separation. He’d liked Yremia, she’d given him the two children he loved so much, but in reality, she was really just as nice piece of furniture in his life.

Description of Dragon:
Keth is a rich true brown in shade. He is large, rivaling small bronzes in size, and well proportioned with thick pads of muscle along his back haunches. His head in arrow shaped with a sharp snout on the end, giving him a rather menacing appearance, despite his incredibly sweet nature.
The big brown is not as reserved as his rider. He is gregarious and chatty and likes conversing with other dragons whenever possible. Keth doesn’t have a competitive bone in his body and only wins mating flights because of his sheer determination to work hard.
