Persona Profile: Zanie (Inactive)

Writer: Bree

Name: Zanie
Age: 28
Birthday: m12 d4
Rank: Junior Journeyman Dolphineer
Location: Dolphin Hall, Dolphin Cove Weyr
Craft: Dolphineer
Craft Rank: Junior Journeyman

Physical Description of Persona:
Zanie has her father's brown hair and eyes, as well as his nose and his smile. No one mistakes her for anyone but Zanyar's daughter, which made it almost impossible for her to get into trouble as a child without having her transgressions reported directly to her father. She keeps her hair long enough for braids, choosing comfort and ease over glamour in her hairstyle--two braids that she can take care of herself. If it makes her look younger than her years, she doesn't mind--in fact, she probably doesn't even notice. Her clothing is testimony to her lack of regard--some of it looking suspiciously like they might have come from her father's closet. With long legs (and large feet) that she hasn't quite managed to grow into, Zanie is not a particularly graceful young woman, but she's been assured by her father that she'll grow out of her gawkish phase.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Zanie is a bright girl, and she knows it. Her father has raised her to be comfortable with this--unfortunately that confidence given her something of an ego. She is proud of her intelligence and of how much she's learned about her craft, and there is nothing she likes so much as to show off her skills and talents. The fact that her father spends most of time encouraging her doesn't help the situation--but the stern lessoning of her peers, if nothing else, has kept her from becoming a completely spoiled brat. Cheerful and friendly, Zanie makes friends with boys and girls with equal ease, but has never show much interest in perusing anything more than friendship with any of her male friends. As delighted as her father is by this fact, he'd be less pleased if he realized that she ignores the boys her age in favor of crushes on men who are ten or twenty turns her senior.

History of Persona:
Zanie was born to dolphineer parents at a Hall on the northern continent. After her mother's death, her father answered the call to join the Dolphineers at Topaz Seahold, bringing Zanie with him. Although she spent much of her time with foster mothers, Zanie also got a lot of attention from her father, who doted on her. Being raised with his constant approval and love made her confident at a young age.

Her unofficial training started as soon as she was old enough to understand what her father was teaching her, so when Zanie apprenticed at twelve, she was already far ahead of many of the other apprentices. It didn't take too long for her fellow students to make it clear to her that superior knowledge did not make her special--and to teach her that being an arrogant know-it-all was not the way to gain friends. Her father had ensured that she has lived a happy, sheltered life--a life which nothing interfered with until the violent storm that destroyed their home shortly after she gained her journeyman's knots. Living at the temporary Hall at Dolphin Cove, Zanie has been spending more and more time watching the dragons in flight and wondering if she could ever become a dragonrider. Her one attempt to bring it up with her father, however, enraged him so much that she hasn't brought the subject up again.
