Persona Profile: Jynrek (Inactive)

Writer: Bree

Name: Jynrek
Age: 73
Birthday: m8 d1
Rank: Master Crafter
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Craft: Healer
Craft Rank: Master
Speciality: Diagnostics

Physical Description of Persona:
Jynrek may still have a thick head of hair, but it is well on its way to silver with only a few brown strands left to be found. Friendly blue eyes are surrounded by smile lines and sit under bushy eyebrows that he enjoys wiggling at children to make them laugh. His features are a little unbalanced for good looks, but Jynrek has never had any trouble compensating for his unimpressive looks with his friendly personality.

Healthy living has left Jynrek otherwise looking quite a few turns younger than he actually is, and though his tall frame is perhaps more lanky than muscular now, he still is fit enough and determined to stay that way for many turns to come.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Jynrek's ability to be unflappably calm in the face of almost anything has been his most valuable asset throughout his life, followed closely by a sharp mind and a genuine sense of empathy. His greatest weakness is the fact that he lets his understanding and sympathy for other people get the best of him, making it very hard for him to do what's best for people when it's not something they want. Although he has learned to force himself to follow through, it still affects him more than he'd like to admit.

Having enjoyed the freedom of the Weyr and its relationships at a young age is one of the reasons Jynrek has never married, and though he keeps his relationships discreet, he also tends to keep them brief. He claims after over sixty turns, he's gotten used to being able to drop his socks in the middle of the floor without a woman complaining, and has no intention of changing at this late date.

History of Persona:
Although he grew up in the Healer Hall, Jynrek has always been far more comfortable in the Weyr. After getting his journeyman's knots at nineteen, he spent several turns studying at Dragonsfall. He returned to the Hall to work with one of the elderly Masters studying diagnostics, and received his Master's knots at forty.

The lure of the Weyr beckoned again, but the death of his teacher left a void at the Hall that he agreed to stay and fill, teaching diagnostics to the senior apprentices. Still, he had no intention of staying, and resisted the efforts of the Hall's many "helpful" ladies to find him a nice wife to settle down with.

It soon became clear that the Hallmaster had every intention of grooming Jynrek for a more permanent position at the Hall--perhaps Master of Apprentices or even as his Hallsecond. Seeing his last chance dwindling, Jynrek was thrilled when the request came from River Bluff, asking for a Master to help the ailing Weyrhealer run the infirmary, on a purely temporary basis, of course.

Jynrek had his bags packed almost before he'd finished reading the note. Convincing the Hallmaster to let him go was a little harder, but in the intervening turns he'd turned out several well trained Senior Journeymen more than capable of taking over his teaching spot. Pointing out that the appointment was clearly temporary, Jynrek left for River Bluff Weyr, not telling anyone that he had no intention of going back to the Hall. Not even if it did mean working for a high-strung woman half his age.

When Abrei's poor health forced her to step down from her post as Weyrhealer, Jynrek accepted the post in her place.
